Adam Green releases his new album, Engine of Paradise, on Friday via Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records. Featuring gorgeous, baroque string arrangements, it’s a companion piece to his new graphic novel, War & Paradise, which is a “satirical war epic is about the clash of humans with machines, the meeting of spirituality with singularity, and the bidirectional relationship between life and the afterlife.” Engine of Paradise also features guest appearances by Florence Welch, Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado and Delicate Steve.

We’ve got the premiere of the album’s title track, which opens the record and sets Adam’s fantastical story in string-laden motion. “‘Engine of Paradise’ is some soil to plant yourself in,” says Adam. “It’s a place to relax, like being in a movie theater, where the players are jewelers of melodic time.” Watch the video, which is a natural merger of the album and graphic novel, below.

You can download the graphic novel for free via Adam’s website, and hard copies are available for purchase through Pioneer Works.

Adam Green celebrates the release of Engine of Paradise on Friday (9/6) at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, with Devon Church also on the bill (tickets). He’ll also be talking with Lizzy Goodman and Jenny Eliscu about art and the early-’00s days of the NYC music scene at the Meet Me in the Bathroom: The Art Show on September 17. That’s a free event and starts promptly at 7 PM — RSVP for that by emailing [email protected]. Adam’s got European tour dates coming up too and all are listed below.

Meet Me in the Bathroom: The Art Show, which is inspired by Goodman’s book and features works by Green, members of The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol and lots more, opened Wednesday night (9/4) at The Hole (312 Bowery) and runs through September 22.
