Big Thief released their sophomore album Capacity today, one of the most anticipated and best albums from a young indie band this year (read our review). One of its standout tracks, "Mary," dates back to a one-off collaborative set that Big Thief singer Adrianne Lenker played with Tiny Hazard singer Alena Spanger at The Hum in 2015. That was back even before Big Thief signed to Saddle Creek and released their debut album Masterpiece, and before Tiny Hazard released their Ba Da Bing debut Greyland, another 2017 indie album we love.

The Hum booker Rachael Pazdan (aka HYNPOCRAFT) posted a video of them playing "Mary" at that 2015 show, with Adrianne on electric guitar and Alena on grand piano. It's pretty amazing to hear the two of them sing it together. Adrianne and Alena also covered Leonard Cohen's "Lady Midnight" at that same show. Watch videos of both below.

That show also included Nandi Rose Plunkett (playing a collaborative set with White Prism's Johanna Cranitch), whose solo project Half Waif is now on Cascine and rising more every day, and who's also a member of Pinegrove whose Cardinal was one of the best albums of last year. That edition of The Hum took place at Brooklyn venue Manhattan Inn, which is now closed. Rachael Pazdan now books Le Poisson Rouge, and last month she put on a series of The Hum shows at both LPR and Good Room.

Last night, Tiny Hazard played the BrooklynVegan/AdHoc Northside showcase at The Park Church Co-Op with Aldous Harding and M Lamar (pictures). Big Thief have two Northside shows, one at Rough Trade tonight (6/9) and one at The Park Church Co-Op on Saturday (6/10). Both are sold out, but you can try to get in with a Northside badge if you show up early enough. Big Thief also play a big Prospect Park show with Conor Oberst and Hop Along in July (buy tickets or win them).
