watch Butcher Brown’s new live session, see them on tour w/ Kamasi Washington
Richmond, VA jazz group Butcher Brown are opening Kamasi Washington's upcoming tour, and if you're a fan of Kamasi, there's a good chance you'll dig these guys too. Each individual member also has quite the resume outside of this band. Keyboardist DJ Harrison played on Jack White's new album, saxophonist and trumpeter Marcus Tenney played on Natalie Prass and Foxygen albums, guitarist Morgan Burrs has played in Rapsody's live band, and drummer Corey Fonville frequently plays with Christian Scott. (Bassist Andrew Randazzo rounds out the lineup, and DJ Harrison calls him "the band's navigator.")
Butcher Brown are set to release their new six-track album Camden Session on October 12 via Gearbox Records. The album was recorded at Mark Ronson’s Zelig Studios, "no edits, no overdubs." They recently released the seven-minute lead single "Camden Square," and we're now premiering a live session video for that song, which was filmed by Tiny Room. The video really gives you an idea of how much these guys groove together, as you can see for yourself below.
The tour with Kamasi includes a NYC show on November 11 at Brooklyn Steel (tickets), and Butcher Brown also have their own NYC show on January 5 at the Blue Note at midnight (details TBA). All dates are listed below.
