watch David Byrne and John Mulaney on last night’s SNL
John Mulaney hosted Saturday Night Live last night and brought along some of his Sack Lunch Bunch pals. Most notably David Byrne, fresh off his American Utopia on Broadway run, brought that show's "untethered" band with him to perform Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" and "Toe Jam" (from his Brighton Port Authority album with Fatboy Slim). Watch those below.
As Mulaney has done the previous two times hosting, there was an elaborate musical, this time based around airports and Byrne was part of it (as was Sack Lunch Bunch-er Jake Gyllenhaal) with a closing number that played off Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere." Watch that below too.
Elsewhere in the episode: Larry David was back as Bernie Sanders for the episode's cold open, which was about the coronavirus, that also featured Fred Armisen (and Bloomberg) and Rachel Dratch as Amy Klobuchar; and there was another musical sketch, a parody of The Sound of Music. Watch those, plus John Mulaney's very funny opening monologue, two sketches cut for time, and more, below.
Next week (3/7), Daniel Craig hosts and The Weeknd is musical guests.
Need more Byrne: he's bringing American Utopia back to Broadway this fall. He also just shared his March playlist on his website which is called "catching up" and includes tracks from Kate Tempest, Billie Eilish, Moses Sumney, Algiers, Brittany Howard, and more.
