watch John Cale, The Kills, Gruff Rhys, Wild Beasts, Clinic & more play 'The Velvet Underground & Nico' in Liverpool
John Cale‘s 50th anniversary tribute to seminal album The Velvet Underground & Nico i Friday night (5/26) as part of Liverpool Sound City fest. For it, Cale got help from Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys, Wild Beasts, Lias Saudi of Fat White Family, The Kills, Nadine Shah, and Clinic. After a moment of silence for Manchester, the show started with Cale performing “I’m Waiting for the Man” and he then brought out other guests, not sticking to the album’s track order. They also played a few other VU songs not on that album. Check out video of most of the show, and whole setlist (via GSLM) below.
John Cale will do a two-night similar tribute for the album’s anniversary in NYC as part of BAM’s Next Wave Festival in November.
