Not only did Kate Davis co-write "Seventeen," a major standout on Sharon Van Etten's new album, she's releasing her own new album Trophy on November 8 via Solitaire Recordings (also home to Common Holly). We recently posted the singles "Open Heart," "Cloud," and "rbbts" from that album, and we're now premiering the closing title track, along with its video. The song starts out sounding like the classic vocal jazz that Kate embraced earlier in her career, but it evolves into a ripping dose of modern-day indie rock, and it comes with a nostalgia-inducing, talent show-themed music video. It's an instantly satisfying song, one that should appeal to fans of Kate's jazz roots as well as fans of indie rock in the vein of Kate's aforementioned collaborator Sharon Van Etten.
