watch Real Estate perform outside former NYC record store locations

Earlier this month, Real Estate promoted their solid new album The Main Thing with a series of live acoustic shows dubbed “The Outstore Thing,” which took place outside locations of former NYC record stores, including Other Music (15 E 4th St), Rocks In Your Head (157 Prince St), and Kim’s Video (124 1st Ave). The band documented these performances with a four-minute documentary short, which has the band playing songs from throughout their career and passing out “bootleg” copies of The Main Thing (with plain black-and-white photocopy-style album art) to lucky fans, before finishing up with an actual in-store performance at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade.

“We know things are feeling scary right now, so we thought we’d share this with you. Hopefully it will bring a few moments of brightness to your day,” say the band. “Remember that social distance is extremely important right now, and so is emotional closeness.” Watch “The Outstore Thing” video and their video for recent single “Paper Cup,” below.

Real Estate are scheduled to begin a US spring tour in April — there has been no formal announcement but some of the early dates of the tour (including Detroit, Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Louis). Stay tuned for updates.
