watch Stephen Malkmus perform 2 Silver Jews songs in tribute to David Berman

Stephen Malkmus paid tribute to his onetime Silver Jews bandmate, the late David Berman, at a solo show in Glasgow on Friday. He performed two Silver Jews songs: “Trains Across the Sea,” from Starlite Walker, and American Water‘s “The Wild Kindness.” (This was the first date of his European tour and first show he’d played since Berman’s death.) Malkmus played on the recordings of both song, and his Glasgow performance of “The Wild Kindness” is particularly affecting. Watch both below.

We lost David Berman on August 8 and many artists have paid tribute since by covering his songs, including Bill Callahan, Phosphorescent and Animal Collective.
