We just posted about the Brooklyn tribute to David Berman, which was one of many DCB tributes that happened on Saturday around the country on what would’ve been his 53rd birthday.  In portland, indie zine chickfactor organized a DCB birthday tribute/benefit titled “Bike Chain Rain” at Bunk that featured a number of his former collaborators, including original Silver Jews members Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich, as well as Silver Jews touring member William Tyler, plus The Spinanes’ Rebecca Gates, Clay Cole, and more.

Malkmus and Nastanovich’s set included Silver Jews songs “Trains Across the Sea,” “Random Rules,” “Advice to the Graduate,” and more; Gates did a lovely version of Purple Mountains’ “Snow is Falling in Manhattan” with William Tyler and “We Could Be Looking For The Same Thing” with Clay Cole. Watch video from the Portland show, below.

Meanwhile in Philadelphia, there was a DCBday tribute at World Cafe Live organized by Speedy Ortiz and featuring Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan, Radiator Hospital’s Cynthia Schemmer, Slaughter Beach, Dog’s Jake Ewald, and more. You can watch video of Speedy Ortiz doing “People,” as well as “Punks in the Beerlight” with Frances Quinlan, and “Smith and Jones Forever” with Dominic Angelella below as well.
