UK band The Futureheads will release Powers, their first album in nine years, later this month, and it finds them in fine form, picking up where they left off but also feeling very fresh. (Absence also makes the heart grow fonder.) They’ve just made a video for single “Good Night Out.” The song was inspired by John McGrath’s 1981 book, A Good Night Out, which the band describe as being about “art and the working class and how big ideas can be for everyone.” The video, directed by Marta Brodacka, works with those ideas, too, while playing off the opening line of “summertime’s for everyone.” It’s a day at the beach with vivid colors that almost pop off the screen. “It’s about how a sunny day gets us out into the streets and onto the beach, together,” the band tell us. “It’s about the arts world and it’s old-boys network and how important issues are easily forgotten when there’s the zeitgeist to consider and entertainment to be made.” The video premieres in this post and you can watch that below.

Powers is out August 30 (pre-order) and The Futureheads will celebrate its release in their hometown of Sunderland on September 4, and have UK dates later in the fall. Hopefully, they’ll come to North America as well. All dates are listed below.
