Brooklyn band The Mystery Lights are one of the better garage rock acts in NYC or any other city at the moment, bringing good songwriting, musicianship and a welcome dash of soul to the genre. The band are set to release Too Much Tension, their second album for Daptone imprint Wick Records, on Friday. As the title implies, the state of the world closing in on us informs the record, but it never gets too heavy, with a danceable groove at the center of its songs. Take for example the album's title track, which doesn't need to get into specifics to convey its feeling, with basically the title repeated over an infectious circular groove. The video, shot all over NYC on Super-8, is a lot like the record -- vintage vibes for a modern world. That video premieres in this post and you can watch it, and check out a few other songs from the album, below.

The Mystery Lights will be on tour beginning with a record release show at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 18 with Dirty Fences and Future Punx (tickets). They'll hit most major U.S. and Canadian cities before wrapping things up in Cambridge, MA on June 29. They'll tour Europe in the fall -- all dates are listed below.
