The National frontman Matt Berninger performed at the sixth annual Dream Serenade benefit concert in Toronto last night (11/2), during which he performed songs from his upcoming debut solo album Serpentine Prison and covered a song by The National's past tourmates and 4AD labelmates Big Thief. Matt did "Not," the standout track off Big Thief's second album of 2019, Two Hands, complete with a soaring trumpet solo at the end. Matt and the backing band sounded great doing it; check out a video of the Big Thief cover and a video of what appears to be one of Matt's new solo songs, below.

In addition to recently announcing his debut solo album, Matt recently released a collaborative single with Phoebe Bridgers.
