watch the 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' trailer

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the highly anticipated eighth film in the main Star Wars saga, is out December 15 and they’ve just released the new trailer which is already being dissected frame-by-frame for clues about film’s plot. You can also just enjoy it on a pure eye candy level and there’s plenty of that too alongside nefarious references to “raw untamed power” that could be aimed by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) or Rey (Daisy Ridley). There’s also plenty of Luke in this one, and his sister Leia (the late Carrie Fisher who finished work on the film before she died). Watch the new trailer below.

Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper) both wrote and directed The Last Jedi which is being seen as a rare auteur entry in the the Star Wars series that is otherwise populated by journeymen filmmakers (and George Lucas) who toe the company line. In other news, Luke himself, Mark Hamillwas at NY Comic Con over the weekend, as were tons of fans dressed as characters from the Star Wars universe.

The next Star Wars film after The Last Jedi will be the untitled Han Solo-centric side story film, set before the time of the original Star Wars and staring Alden Ehrenreich as Han and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Ron Howard was brought in to take over directing duties after Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who shot much of the film) were fired.
