watch The Tallest Man on Earth cover John Lennon, The Strokes, The National & more
The Tallest Man on Earth has been doing a weekly livestream series on Fridays where he performs his own material, and, after taking requests a few week ago, he’s started doing lots of covers, too. They’ve been an eclectic bunch of songs that Kristian Matsson has really made his own, especially on those he breaks out the banjo for. This Friday (5/8), after teasing the song last week, we got a full version of The National‘s “Pink Rabbits,” performed on synthesizer. Kristian also did renditions of The Strokes‘ “Someday,” John Lennon‘s “Jealous Guy,” Daniel Johnston‘s “Walking the Cow,” Lucinda Williams‘ “Greenville,” Tom Waits‘ “Take It With Me,” traditional folk song “The Moonshiner,” and a couple of his own songs. See the setlist, and watch the whole set, below.
Courtney Marie Andrews, who was supposed to be on tour with Kristian now, also made an appearance on the stream, and played “It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault” from her upcoming album, Old Flowers, the release of which has been pushed back to July because of coronavirus.
Kristian has previously covered Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Sufjan Stevens, Aretha Franklin, The Shins, Big Thief, David Bazan, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mazzy Star, Vampire Weekend, Bonny Light Horseman, Adele, Jackson C. Frank, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Iver, Joni Mitchell and more.
