Wavves

Wavves playing NYC shows after blink-182 tour, made anti-Trump billboards

Mark Hoppus: What are your ultimate ambitions as a band?

Nathan Williams: To tour with blink-182. Headlining. You would open for me. My second ultimate ambition is to open for you. My third ultimate ambition is to play on a professional NHL hockey team. I’ve never played hockey before but I’d like to try it out.

I’m out of questions. Is there anything else you want to say?

I love you.

The above excerpt is from a 2010 interview on Billboard where Mark Hoppus of pop punk megastars blink-182 interviewed Nathan Williams of indie-pop punks Wavves. Wavves still haven’t gotten the chance to tour with blink-182 opening for them, but the opposite scenario is happening this April and May.

No NYC dates on the blink-182/Wavves tour, but Wavves will play two headlining shows in NYC a few days after that tour ends: May 12 at Bowery Ballroom and May 14 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Opening both shows is Post Animal, the psych band featuring Steve from Stranger Things. Tickets for Bowery and MHOW go on AmEx presale today (3/1) at noon. They go on sale to the general public on Friday (3/3) at noon. All Wavves dates are listed below.

Wavves also tweeted in December that their new album would be out this April on their own Ghost Ramp label. Their last album, 2015’s V, was a split release between Ghost Ramp and Warner Bros.

UPDATE: The album and a full tour are now announced. The album will actually be out in May. More info here.

In other news, just weeks after Wavves made a nazi-punching video game, they designed two anti-Trump comics that they’re looking to get on a billboard anywhere in the USA. One has Nathan Williams pissing on Trump, who’s hiding behind the wall he wants to build. The other has Steve Bannon breastfeeding Trump. They want to use the billboards to help raise money for causes they believe in. They’ve currently got links on Ghost Ramp’s website where you can make donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, National Immigration Law Center, 350.org, Planned Parenthood, and The Trevor Project; and they’re also donating proceeds from Ghost Ramp merch for the next month. Here’s what Wavves write:

We are looking to crowdsource a billboard – anywhere in the USA to host these images. If you can help please write to [email protected]

We are living in a time where our president is so narcissistic that he can be baited by the media like the child he is.

Trump is also cutting funding for many causes that are very important to us.

So we commissioned Johnny Ryan to design a billboard in Los Angeles – but no one we’ve found has been willing to run the images.

We want to use this ugliness to grab attention and use it for good.
We will put a URL on the billboard where donations can be made to important causes that need our funds.

We only represent ourselves and no other organizations but we do want to help raise money where it is most needed.

We want Trump to see this.
