NYPL’s Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound Record Sale
The New York Public Library need to make some room and is clearing out some 22,000 vinyl duplicates in its collection. With LPs in every genre and era imaginable, most of the records are going for a buck. Warning: word on the street is most of the stock is classical. Noon – 5:45 PM.

An Elliot Smith Tribute @ Bowery Ballroom
Rhett Miller hosts this tribute to Smith who died 10 years ago and would’ve been 44 this week. Amongst the performers tonight: Mary Lou Lord, Chris Thile, Bob Dorough, and “special guests.” Tickets are still available and proceeds to New Alternatives for LGBT Homeless Youth.

Nick Lowe, Jason Isbell, Rockin’ Rockabilly Revue @ Damrosch Bandshell (FREE)
Having been performing and writing songs for over 40 years, “The Basher” remains as charming and witty as he was when he wrote “Cruel to be Kind” and “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass.” A class act. Part of Lincoln Center’s free Out of Doors fest, 6 PM.

Labretta Suede (& the Motel 6), Livids, The Naked Heroes, Bownbird Rudy Relic, The Spastics, The Moto-wrays, Boxtapus @ Death By Audio
Vampy rockers Labretta Suede and The Motel 6 are getting ready for a three month tour (and are leaving NYC after that), and are throwing themselves a going away party with six bands. Fun starts at 5 PM and, to quote Livids, “You’re guaranteed to see a boob or two.”

North Highlands, Brazos, Chalk and Numbers @ Glasslands
One of Brooklyn’s most underrated bands, North Highlands just released a great new single and tonight’s its record release party. It’s a well-chosen night, with Chalk and Numbers, plus Bravos too.

Morning Teleportation, Desert Noises, Elephant Stone @ Mercury Lounge
This whole bill is solid, but do get there early (7PM) for Montreal’s Elephant Stone whose 12-string jangle recalls Teenage Fanclub and, yes, The Stone Roses.

Field Mouse, The Attic Ends @ Mercury Lounge
Poppy shoegazers Field Mouse headline this show which is free but you need to RSVP via the Thrillcall mobile app.

Warm Up w/ Julio Bashmore, Octave One, Hyetal, DJ Dodger Stadium (Samo Sound Boy & Jerome LOL) @ MoMA PS1
One of the better Warm Ups this summer happens today with UK house producer Julio Bashmore (who just opened for Disclosure), his collaborator Hyetal, Detroit techno vets Octave One, and a collaboration from Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL as DJ Dodger Stadium.

Major Lazer, Matt & Kim, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, Rockie Fresh, Keys n Krates, Destructo @ Williamsburg Park
Another electronic day show today, is the more in-your-face (and sold out) Mad Decent Block Party, which takes over Williamsburg Park this afternoon.

Mad Decent All-Stars @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
After that block party, the Mad Decent All-Stars (whoever exactly that may be) head to MHOW for an afterparty. Also sold out.

They Might Be Giants, Moon Hooch @ Prospect Park Bandshell (FREE)
Geek rock faves They Might Be Giants headline a big free, outdoor Brooklyn show tonight.

Citizens Arrest, Enabler, Miscegenator, Dead Serious @ Acheron
NYHC favorites Citizens Arrest return to play the tiny Acheron, this time with modern metalcore quartet Enabler. Should be an excellent night of the greats of old and future stars.

The Cambodian Space Project, Les Sans Culottes, The Sights @ The Rock Shop
The last of three shows in NYC, The Cambodian Space Project mix ’60s garage psych with Southeast Asian pop. Onetime Dirtbombs bassist Jim Diamond will be playing in the band tonight.

Summer Thunder w/ Devin, Hints, Doozies, Les Savy Fav (DJs) @ Union Pool
Frenchkiss Records is presenting this week’s free outdoor Summer Thunder show, featuring by rock-n-roll throwback, Devin, and the Bunnymen-esque Hints. LSV’s Tim Harrington brings the ever-present element of mischief that’s usually so lacking at Union Pool. 3PM, with bands starting later in the afternoon.

Heliotropes, Dead Stars, Quiet Loudly, The Veda Rays, Eastern Hollows, The Meaning of Life @ Rippers (FREE)
We’re running out of summer weekends. Why not spend it at Rockaway Beach with watching indie rock and eating french fries? FREE. 6 PM.

Black Madonna, Secrets, Free Magic, Faso @ Glasslands
If you like to dance, tonight’s Discovery party at Glasslands should be a good time. You can stream a recent track from The Black Madonna, below.

The Black Crowes, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The London Souls @ Nikon at Jones Beach
