Owen Ashworth as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone in 2010 (more by Ryan Muir)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Overseas (David Bazan / Will Johnson / Matt & Bubba Kadane), Strand of Oaks @ Mercury Lounge
New indie rock "supergroup" Overseas makes music that lives up to the expectations set by the band's lineup (it sounds like it was made by them too). They're in NYC tonight for their first of two shows with singer/songwriter Strand of Oaks, who is worth catching as well.

Guac Rock w/ The Fine Machines, Beverly, Joywave @ Rocks Off Concert Cruises
Do you love avocados, indie bands and boats? Well here's your chance to try a bunch of kinds of guacamole -- including winners from the recent Guactacular competition -- while enjoying bands (including duo Bevery, one half of whom is Frankie Rose) aboard The Jewel. Sold out.

Advance Base, Krill, Thin Hymns, Frankie Cosmos @ Silent Barn
Owen Ashworth (of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone) is now playing as Advance Base, and still making very quality songwriting, as we heard on 2012's A Shut-In's Prayer. Tonight he's at Brooklyn DIY spot Silent Barn, and if you're going, make sure you're there on time for Boston indie rockers Krill, whose recently released Lucky Leaves is a solid collection of loud, quirky indie rock.

Nile Rodgers Dance Party @ Martha Clara Vineyards
The Chic guitarist (and Daft Punk collaborator) is throwing a benefit for charity All for the East End in the Hamptons. Chic and a host of "special guests" are performing.

Kind of a slow night for music, but there's also great comedy tonight, including Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac, Matt Koff, Admed Bharoocha & more @ Littlefield, Mike Birbiglia @ Union Hall, and the final of three nights for Flight of the Conchords @ McKittrick Hotel.

Being that there's not much going on tonight, maybe it's a good night to check out something new for the first time, like Park Slope's Barbes, which hosts Brain Cloud (7 PM) and Grupo Chonta (9:30 PM) tonight.
