Weird Womb

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Monogold, The Canon Logic, Tashaki Miyaki, Modern Rivals @ Pianos
Monogold’s Pianos residency continues tonight and if you need a little extra incentive to check it out, LA band Tashaki Miyaki are on the bill too. Their sound — dreamy post-VU Sunday morning strumming — isn’t anything new, but also never gets old.

Hoax, Crazy Spirit, Warthog, Pharmakon @ 538 Johnson
Perpare for war.  A Hoax show in 538 Johnson will be nothing short of utter punk rock mayhem, and add in support from the great Crazy Spirit, the similarly good Warthog, and the industrial/noise of Pharmakon, you have a hell of a show. Not. To. Be. Missed.

Blanche Blanche Blanche, Cloud Becomes Your Hand, The Great Valley, Son of Salami @ Silent Barn
Blanche Blanche Blanche are still riding high off the release of this year’s Wooden Ball, a freaky mix of psychedelia and art pop, and they’ve been playing many Brooklyn shows since. Tonight they’re at DIY spot Silent Barn with Cloud Becomes Your Hand, The Great Valley, and Son of Salami.

Selebrities, Psychic Twin, Softspot, Celeste @ 285 Kent Avenue
Brooklyn’s Selebrities recall the early ’80s days when post-punk discovered synthesizers and pop melodies at the same time. Their new album, Lovely Things, came out earlier this summer and is worth a listen on Spotify.

Weird Womb (record release), The Dardys, Dutch Bats @ Cake Shop
Grimy punks Weird Womb release their “Ruined in the ’90s” 7″ this week and tonight’s the official release show. Stream a track below.

New Power Generation, Secret Band @ City Winery
It’s “Purple Week” at City Winery and tonight’s show is not Prince (or an artist formerly known as that) but it is members of his sometimes backing band, New Power Generation, plus the promise of “very special guests.” For the price of these tickets, they better be special.

Chicago

Chicago @ Seaside Concerts
You may have forgotten just how many horn-filled hits Chicago had over the years, but it’s more than you remember. (Or if you just watched Larry David’s HBO comedy, Clear History, maybe you do remember.) Here’s a good opportunity to hear them all, for free, against a beachy backdrop.

Big Terrific Comedy Show @ Cameo Gallery (FREE)
Max Silvestri hosts this popular weekly free comedy show that tonight welcomes Bonnie MacFarlane, Chris Kelly, Ben Kronberg, and Jacqueline Novak.

Q-Tip (#Offline) @ Output
Q-Tip’s weekly #Offline party, now at Output, aims to recreate the vibe of ’90s clubs when most of us weren’t staring at our phones all the time.

Father Figures, Helen Gillet, The Happy Maladies @ Death By Audio
Williamsburg DIY spot Death by Audio is known for punk, garage, metal and most things loud, but tonight’s definitely a bit different: Cincinnati’s neo-classical Happy Maladies, New Orleans singer-songwriter Helen Gillet who performs with a cello, and local jazz act Father Figures.
