You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Wild Beasts, The Range @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Wild Beasts fourth album, Present Tense, is decidedly more synth-heavy than anything they’ve done before, the record is still very much in the band’s lusty, decadent universe. Tonight’s sold-out show is one of two the band are doing in the US this week around the record’s release.

Cheatahs, Eternal Summers, Little Racer @ Baby’s All Right
UK band Cheatahs’ debut album is a nice balance of the loud, dreamy and melodic, and ’90s touchstones seem to be Swervedriver and early Sloan. They play with another band that balances noise and melody well, Eternal Summers.

Ringo Deathstarr, Purple, Christines @ Mercury Lounge
It’s a shame this and the Cheatahs show are the same night as they appeal to the same crowd. Austin’s Ringo Deathstarr are also superior (guitar) pedal pushers, and new local band Christines (ex-Woven Bones) owe more than a little to Swervedriver themselves.

Fenster, AM Gems, Imaginary Friends @ Shea Stadium
Like most artists on Morr Music (The Notwist, Lali Puna), Brooklyn/Berlin act Fenster incorporate electronics in a very organic way, making for earthy pop and the band’s new album is spare, warm and quite lovely.

Liam Finn @ Union Pool
On his forthcoming album, The Nihilist, Finn played 67 instruments, which actually sounds about right. Anyone who’s seen his live shows knows the dude can play anything. And often does! This is the first of his March “Murmuration” residencies.

Joan As Police Woman @ Chez Andre
Tomorrow’s Joan as Policewoman show at Union Pool is sold out, you can see her for free tonight at this subterranean club in The Standard Hotel’s East Village location. RSVP to [email protected].

Baby Alpaca, Seoul, Sea Oleena @ Glasslands
Montreal band Seoul make airy, crystaline pop that was funky and soulful in an ’80s kind of way. This is their first of two NYC shows this week with fellow MTL band Sea Oleena.

Paul Simon, Sting @ MSG
Expect over four decades of greatness from Paul Simon dating back to his early days in Simon & Garfunkel through the quality material of 2011’s So Beautiful or So What. He’ll play with his own band and also take the stage with Sting for a collaborative set.

Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, Vince Staples @ Best Buy Theater
Schoolboy Q’s new album, Oxymoron, has some of his hardest flow and most detailed production, but not at the expense of the element of fun he’s always had. He’s already done some previewing of that material in NYC, but this is his first proper show since its release, which likely means it’ll be rowdier and include more favorites from earlier in his career too. And don’t miss the openers, including Q’s TDE labelmate Isaiah Rashad and Black Hippy/Odd Future collaborator Vince Staples.

Sleepy Sun, Kill Devil Hills @ Knitting Factory
Sleepy Sun make ocean-sized psych akin to Black Angels, and now four albums deep they’ll be bringing their trippy sounds to NYC tonight.

George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars @ BB King’s
Free your mind and your ass will follow to George Clinton’s legendary funk and soul at BB King’s tonight.

Metal Church, Attacker, Polygamyst @ Saint Vitus
Metal Church are one of those ’80s-era metal stalwarts who came close to rock stardom but never quite made it. (They compare favorably to Anvil, for instance.) You can catch their current iteration — which still features founding guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof — touring behind their tenth album, 2013’s Generation Nothing, tonight at Vitus.
