You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Conor Oberst @ Rough Trade
The brains behind the beloved Bright Eyes and multiple other projects throughout his lengthy and prolific career, Conor Oberst is now back in solo mode with a new folk-oriented record, Upside Down Mountain, which is out today. His tour includes a large NYC show at Central Park Summerstage in July, but tonight he’ll celebrate with this far more intimate release show.

Walter Schreifels, Shellshag @ Union Pool
Walter Schreifels is undoubtedly a legend in post-hardcore, having played in many pioneering bands including Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today and Quicksand, among others. Even when he’s not reunited with one of those bands, or playing in one of his more recent ones, Walter stays busy with his solo career. Shellshag, veterans of NYC’s DIY scene, are always worth catching as well.

Built To Spill, The Warm Hair @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
When people talk about ’90s Indie Rock, certainly at least some of that talk is aimed at Built to Spill. If their output hasn’t been quite as consistent since Clinton left office, the hat trick of There’s Nothing Wrong with Love, Perfect from Now On, and Keep it Like a Secret more than earned their place in the hall of fame. And they’re still great live.

The Neighbourhood, Danny Brown, Little Daylight, Born Casual @ Central Park Summerstage
While we’re not big fans of the headliner, if you’re going to this Central Park Summerstage show tonight we recommend getting there in time for rapper Danny Brown, whose live shows are always a good time.

The Tablets @ BRIC House
Powered by what sounds like a very old drum machine, Brooklyn trio The Tablets have an appealingly wobbly sound — floating somewhere between 1966 and 1983, warmed by the vocals of Mexican-born main member Liz Godoy. This show iss part of art exhibit “Small Solos: Vandana Jain” by Melissa Godoy Nieto who is Liz’s sister and also does visuals for the band.

Teenanger, Weird Womb, Nandas @ Death by Audio
Toronto’s snarling Teenanger are giving a new batch of songs the road-test treatment on a short tour. If you dig grimey, denim-clad punk, these folks do it well.

Nomads, Unicycle Loves You, Nuclear Santa Claust, The Living Kills @ Glasslands
It’s mostly an indie rock bill at Glasslands tonight with local punks Nuclear Santa Claust being the heavier outliers.

Jesse Boykins III, Machinedrum @ Knitting Factory
Jesse Boykins III enlisted in Machinedrum to give his futuristic R&B/soul that post-dubstep touch, and making tonight a special show on his tour, he’ll actually be joined by Machinedrum on this one.

Coffins, Bones, Ilsa, The Seven Sisters of Sleep @ Saint Vitus
Japanese death/doom greats Coffins are over on our shores for Maryland Deathfest this weekend, but lucky for us New Yorkers who aren’t heading out to that festival (or even those who are but want to see them twice), they’re gracing NYC with a stop at Saint VItus tonight.

Anvil, Sunlord, Saviour @ Santos Party House
This Canadian band’s long-running career was chronicled — and perhaps saved — by the 2009 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil. They’ll bring their old-school riffs to Santos tonight. Rock on.

Colin Jost, Bryan Tucker, Liam McEneaney, Rob Paravonian @ Housing Works
This is the Housing Works series ‘Comedy Notebook with Liam McEneaney’ where comedians try out brand new material, and sometimes talk about it too. Among tonight’s featured acts is Colin Jost who took over for Seth Meyers as both head writer for SNL and co-anchor of “Weekend Update.”
