What's going on Sunday? (Iceage, Borts Minorts, Pile, Grand Resort, Honduras, Endless Boogie & more)

Iceage at Bowery Ballroom in 2013 (more by Fred Pessaro)
Iceage

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Iceage, Anasazi @ Home Sweet Home
It’s the second of two Iceage shows and tonight’s is the more intimate one. NYC goth punks Anasazi open and if you like Iceage there’s no reason you should miss this band.

Grand Resort, Gold Lake, Lazyeyes, Andrew Keoghan @ Baby’s All Right
Synth-heavy indiepop band Grand Resort wear their jangly influences on their sleeves (C-86 / Sarah Records) but win out with enthusiasm and an ear for infectious melody. They headline this line of similarly tuneful locals.

Nap, Borts Minorts @ Cake Shop
Borts Minorts’ shows involve unitards, a stringed instrument made out of a ski, effected vocals, choreography, and general weirdness. The Residents as aerobics instructors? Maybe.

Honduras, Elliot and The Ghost, The Montauk Project, Glass Curtains @ Mercury Lounge
Honduras bring a lot of different influences to the table. A little garage, yes, but there’s ’80s/’90s British indie too. While it may not be anything you haven’t exactly heard before, Honduras write very hooky songs and, as importantly, the bring a real energy to the performance.

Ava Luna, Space Beach, Pile, Grass Is Green, Washer @ Shea Stadium
NYC funk-punks Ava Luna team up with two quality post-hardcore-leaning Massachusetts bands, Pile and Grass Is Green, and more tonight for what should be a pretty fun show.

Endless Boogie, Watery Love, Mordecai @ Union Pool
Endless Boogie are one of the more perfectly named bands in Brooklyn. When they find a groove they go long. Perhaps just as interesting on this bill are Philly band Watery Love who do the scuzz-punk thing very well.

Comedy Night with Hannibal Buress @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal’s very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory’s front bar. Having had his own Comedy Central special and a featured performer on Broad City, Hannibal himself is getting pretty big league. Get there early.

Electric Daisy Carnival @ MetLife Stadium
EDC may not be our favorite NYC-area music festival but there’s some stuff worth catching today like Rudimental (live), AraabMuzik, Skream, MK and more.

Tale of Us, Chymera @ Output
And like the rest of the weekend, there’s an EDC afterparty at Output. Tonight’s brings together Berlin duo Tale of Us with Ireland’s Chymera.

We hope you’re enjoying Memorial Day Weekend. We made a guide of some of the extended holiday goings-on.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
