What's going on Monday? (Soundgarden, Tomorrows Tulips, The Zebras, Mark Monnone, Living Colour and more)

Soundgarden in Atlantic City in 2013 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Soundgarden

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Soundgarden @ Webster Hall
Soundgarden’s fourth and perhaps most beloved album, Superunknown, came out 20 years ago this year and in celebration of that the band are playing it in full tonight (like they did at SXSW). Its major singles like “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman” still live up, as do the non-single favorites like “4th of July.”

Tomorrows Tulips, Beechwood, Alex G @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Costa Mesa, CA trio Tomorrows Tulips make lo-fi indiepop with a flower power bent, as can be heard on last year’s, Experimental Jelly, which came out on Burger Records. Fans of Beat Happening, TV Personalities, The Vaselines…this is for you.

Mark Monnone, Bart & Friends, The Zebras, Olsen & Rydholm & Forester @ Otto’s Shrunken Head
If you missed NYC Popfest (or didn’t get enough), the Australian contingent have organized this “hangover party” with The Zebras, Mid-Stage Orange and The Lucksmiths’ Mark Monnone (both who play in Bart & Friends), plus most of The Ladybug Transistor playing an ad-hoc set. Free.

Glass Elephant, We Are Temporary, Boulevards, Shapes On Tape @ Glasslands
We Are Temporary, the project of Brooklyn-via-New Zealand Stars & Letters label head Mark Roberts, makes catchy electronic pop. His debut album is coming soon but first he plays makes his live debut tonight.

Living Colour @ City Winery
Living Colour’s genre-breaking debut album Vivid, which spawned hits “Cult of Personality” and “Glamour Boys,” turned 25 last year and remains a classic.

Matisyahu @ Mercury Lounge
Matisyahu puts out his new album, Akeda, this week and tonight he celebrates with this release show. It’s a very intimate show for Matisyahu’s standards, and sold out.

Night Train with Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
Hop aboard Wyatt Cenac’s weekly Night Train comedy show tonight with guests Aparna Nancherla, Adam Wade, Becky Yamamoto, Sam Morril, and Charlie Pickering.

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.
