What’s going on Sunday? (Zola Jesus, Radiator Hospital, Allison Crutchfield, Tyondai Braxton, Arto Lindsay, more)
Zola Jesus at Catalpa Fest 2012 (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Zola Jesus, Martin Rev, Lee Bannon @ Webster Hall
Zola Jesus' new album Taiga is her first for a bigger label (Mute) and her most accessible, but it's still the Zola Jesus we know and love. Cool support at this show from Suicide's Martin Rev and electronic producer Lee Bannon.
Radiator Hospital, Allison Crutchfield, Slutever, Girlpool, Libbie 2000 @ Silent Barn
This is a cool bill all around with the always-fun Radiator Hospital, Swearin' singer Allison Crutchfield (playing off her very good solo EP) and two lo-fi LA duos, Slutever and Girlpool.
Tyondai Braxton, Olga Bell, Paul Lansky, Nate Boyce, Daniel Lopatin, Lucky Dragons, Roomful of Teeth, Holly Herndon, more @ MoMA PS1
This is an all-day event called Sound/Source, an "exploration of electroacoustic music in all its forms, featuring collaborations between legends, luminaries, and newcomers as they examine the interplay between human and machine sounds." Lineup includes former Battles member Tyondai Braxton, current Dirty Projectors member Olga Bell, Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never), Holly Herndon and more.
Arto Lindsay (Noise Quartet), Kid Millions/Jim Sauter Duo, Ornament @ Death by Audio
Death by Audio is sadly closing soon, but they've been having tons of great shows go down before that. Tonight's especially cool with no wave pioneer-turned-great experimental composer Arto Lindsay playing with his Noise Quartet.
Filmstrip, Ghost Punch, Enney, Eleanor @ Palisades
Filmstrip have a new LP coming out and the last we heard from it was the single "Waiting On A Train" which wasn't too far removed from The Men's punkish country rock. It's good stuff.
Only Crime, Iron Reagan, Ma Jolie @ Saint Vitus
This show has two bands with impressive lineups: Only Crime (Good Riddance, Converge, Black Flag, Descendents, Tegan & Sara, Modern Life Is War, etc) and the heavy thrashers Iron Reagan (Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, and Darkest Hour). Opening is younger band Ma Jolie who make noodly post-hardcore.
