Boy Pablo

What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Boy Pablo, Hoax @ Baby’s All Right
Pablo Muñoz, who was born and raised in Norway by his Chilean parents, makes synthy dreampop under the guise of Boy Pablo that recalls Mac DeMarco, Gus Dapperton and Prefab Sprout. His video for “Everytime” became a viral hit, and has racked up over seven million views.

Phoenix, Giorgio Poi @ Brooklyn Steel
It’s night two of Phoenix’s five-night, sold-out “Ti’Amo NYC” residency where they’re promising special guests, gelato (the Italian treat was a major inspiration for 2017’s Ti Amo), exclusive merch and more.

DFA Summer Hot Dog @ Elsewhere
DFA Records is throwing another of their “Hot Dog” parties at Elsewhere that will feature the NYC live debut of CCFX, plus DJ sets from Nancy Whang, Juan MacLean, Sinkane, Man Power, Museum Of Love, Liv Spencer, and Jay Green. It’s in both the Hall and Zone One spaces.

Gaby Moreno, Chris Thile, David Garza, Jesse Harris, Mariachi Flor de Toloache, The Grahams @ National Sawdust
Gaby Moreno hosts a benefit concert to help victims of the recent volcano eruption in Guatemala featuring a pretty stellar lineup of musicians.

Trey Anastasio Trio @ Central Park SummerStage
Trey is busy with Phish this year as usual, but first he’s taking the time for some shows with his trio, including Central Park tonight. Sold out.

Jag Panzer, Sacred Oath, Eat Lead, DJ Alex Kayne @ Saint Vitus
Colorado power metal vets Jag Panzer reunited a few years back but their shows are still pretty few and far between, so if you’re a fan, this is a chance worth taking.

Idris Elba, Just Blaze, Kenny Dope, Alix Alvarez @ Output
Most people know Idris Elba for his acting roles, such as his iconic turn as Stringer Bell in The Wire, star of BBC series Luther, and recent Marvel movies, but he is also a musician having released records since the mid-’00s (including a 2015 “character album” based on Luther) and a DJ (he’s opened for Madonna). He’ll be spinning in Output’s main room, while Just Blaze spins in the Panther Room.

Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers @ PNC Bank Arts Center
While Walter Becker will be very much missed, Donald Fagen will bring the Steely Dan hits on this tour with fellow ’70s mellow superstars The Doobie Brothers. Also missed: Michael McDonald who doesn’t tour with the Doobies any more, and who sang backup on many Dan songs.

“Dance Me In” Leonard Cohen tribute with Ballets Jazz de Montréal @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Originally commissioned before Leonard Cohen’s death and with his blessing, Ballets Jazz de Montréal present this sprawling, dance tribute to the master.

Jaye Bartell, Graeme Daubert @ Wonders of Nature
Singer-songwriter Jaye Bartell makes slow, lonesome and beautiful folk rock, and has toured with Kevin Morby, Olden Yolk, Jessica Pratt and more. Graeme Daubert, meanwhile, leads Brooklyn band Alpenglow.
