Restorations

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Restorations, Creepoid, The Dirty Nil @ Rough Trade
Atmospheric heartland rockers Restorations team up with their shoegazy Philly neighbors Creepoid and Canadian punk/alt rockers The Dirty Nil for this BrooklynVegan-presented tour. It’s a great bill all around.

Empress Of, The Range @ Bowery Ballroom
Empress Of makes alt-pop that truly deserves the “alt” prefix, and last year’s debut album Me is an endlessly addictive record. Electronic musician The Range releases his first album for Domino today, and he’s worth catching too.

Gaz Coombes (of Supergrass) @ Rockwood Music Hall
The former Supergrass frontman released the Mercury Prize-nominated Matador last year and is currently on a solo acoustic tour. (He does do a few Supergrass songs, too.) Opening both of these shows is Piney Gir whose music is charming and winsome without being too whimsical.

David Cross @ BAM
David Cross brings his “Making America Great Again!” tour to BAM tonight. He’ll be back in April to play Beacon Theatre.

Yung, B Boys, The Yin Yangs, Telegram @ Shea Stadium
Didn’t go to SXSW but want a little of that international flavor? You can see bands from Denmark (Yung), the UK (Telegram) and the good ole U.S. of A tonight with this lineup of post-punk leaning rock.

Petite Noir, Starchild and The New Romantic @ Baby’s All Right
South African musician Petite Noir crosses several genres for his sound that’s difficult to pinpoint but easy to enjoy. Tonight’s his first of two NYC shows this weekend.

Heems, Anik Khan, Humeysha, Dapwell (DJ set) @ Baby’s All Right
After the Petite Noir show, Baby’s hosts a late-night gig from former Das Racist member Heems.

Framtid, Blazing Eye, Aspects of War, La Misma, Mommy, Indignation @ Acheron
It’s a great time to be a fan of Japanese hardcore. G.I.S.M. are playing their first-ever non-Japan show at Roadburn this year, and Death Side are playing NYC soon. Before any of that, the newer but no less furious Japanese hardcore band Framtid hits Acheron tonight. It’s their first time in the US since playing Chaos In Tejas in 2013.

Andra Day, Giovanni James @ Webster Hall
Andra Day has a hell of a voice that’s somewhere between Rihanna and Adele, and she makes effortlessly enjoyable R&B/soul. Tonight’s show is sold out.

Girlpool, LVL UP, Told Slant, Palberta @ Market Hotel
DIY duo Girlpool have a simple, stripped-down sound, but really it’s all in the lyrics which can be highly relatable.

Mikey Erg, Hiccup, Whoopie Stix, Huh?, Teenage Halloween @ Silent Barn
The busiest drummer in punk, Mikey Erg, is also a solo artist and he plays Silent Barn tonight. It’s also worth catching pop punks Hiccup, whose member are also in Chris Gethard’s house band.

Queering the Music Industry ft. Sadie Dupuis (talk), Vagabon, Adult Mom & more @ Barnard College
This event at Barnard College has solo sets from local artists Vagabon and Adult Mom, and both of them will also be speaking, as will Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis.

Shellshag, Parlor Walls, The Lopez, Prima @ Aviv
Local DIY regulars Shellshag have a very unique show, and it’s always worth catching.

Mac Sabbath, The U.S. Americans, Syka @ Highline Ballroom
This novelty tribute band — fast-food themed rewrites of Black Sabbath songs complete with costumes and all — may make you grimace, but cheers on the highest of concepts played out to the nth degree.

Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which was recently extended through May.
