You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Cate Le Bon, BANANA @ Bowery Ballroom
To celebrate the release of her new album, Crab Day, Cate Le Bon has been performing a few very special shows with five-piece backing band BANANA that includes Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa, H. Hawkline and more. BANANA (with Le Bon as a member) will open the show with an improvised set.
Martin Courtney, Katie Von Schleicher, King Cyst @ Knitting Factory
Martin Courtney’s solo debut, Many Moons, isn’t all that different from what he does in Real Estate, but his strapping on the acoustic — plus nice use of mellotron — give the record a lovely, light touch. His band, which includes Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere, are great. This show is sponsored by Jukely.
Jozef Van Wissem, Holy Sons @ Le Poisson Rouge
Lutenist Jozef Van Wissem makes quality music both as a duo with Jim Jarmusch and on his own. His latest solo album When Shall This Bright Day Begin came out in February. Emil Amos' band Holy Sons makes this a great double bill.
Bleached, No Parents, OCDPP @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
LA trio Bleached just released new album, Welcome the Worms, which is a bit tougher and higher fidelity than we've heard from them before.
The Subways @ Rough Trade
UK band The Subways, best known in the U.S. for their song 2005 single “Rock n Roll Queen,” have continued to crank out riffy records in these post-OC days, most recently on last year’s self-titled album (their fifth). Tonight's a free show, 7 PM.
Asaf Avidan @ Rough Trade
Israeli singer Asaf Avidan kinda sounds like a higher-pitched Leonard Cohen, and last year's Gold Shadow is a very enjoyable record. His four-show run at Rough Trade continues tonight.
The Last Shadow Puppets, Cameron Avery @ Webster Hall
Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane released their second album as Last Shadow Puppets earlier this month, offering more '60s-inspired sweeping strings and high drama.
David Gilmour @ Madison Square Garden
Pink Floyd guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour plays his first of two MSG shows in support of new album Rattle That Lock.
Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
All aboard Wyatt Cenac's weekly comedy cavalcade, this week featuring guests Eugene Mirman, Liza Treyger, Noah Gardenswartz, Michelle Biloon, and more.
Ace Frehley @ BB King Blues Club
We're not sure how great an Ace Frehley solo show in 2016 is gonna be, but what, were we going to not tell you KISS' guitarist was playing tonight?
