You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Coney Island Mermaid Parade
One of the great New York traditions and the unofficial start to summer in the city, now in its 35th year. Freak flags fly, clothes are mostly optional and Blondie’s Debbie Harry & Chris Stein hold court and Queen & King. The fun starts at 1 PM, going from West 21st and Surf Avenue, rolling to West 10th Street, then to the Boardwalk and finishing at Steeplechase Plaza.

Eli Escobar, LLOYDSKI, Andy Pry @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk (Mermaid Parade Afterparty)
Keep the Mermaid Parade party going with the official afterparty, happening at Fort Amphitheater with a bunch of DJs.

Sigur Ros @ Forest Hills Stadium
Sigur Ros are on tour now as a trio, playing two career-spanning sets each show (no opener). This is the final night of the tour, at the very nice outdoor setting of Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium.

LCD Soundsystem @ Brooklyn Steel
Instead of doing these weeklong stretches, maybe LCD should just play Brooklyn Steel once a month, like Billy Joel does at MSG. Tonight is Night 2 of their 7-show run.

Neil Diamond @ Madison Square Garden
Currently celebrating five decades of making music with ‘The 50 Year Anniversary Tour,’ Neil Diamond plays his first of two Barclays shows.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters @ CMAC (Canandaigua)
Elvis Costello is currently on his spring leg of his Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers tour where he’s framing selections from 1982’s Imperial Bedroom album with “the songs that led in and out of that velvet-trimmed playhouse.” His band The Imposters has a couple Attractions, too: drummer Pete Thomas and keyboardist Steve Nieve.

Laura Mvula, Taylor McFerrin, Marcus Gilmore @ Central Park SummerStage
Laura Mvula debuted in 2013 with the soulful pop of Sing to the Moon, and last year she followed it the more challenging, more orchestral The Dreaming Room. Tonight she returns to NYC for a free show.

Culture Abuse, PPL, Lion’s Cage @ Marco’s
UPDATE: This event has been canceled. Before heading back to California, noisy punks Culture Abuse play this free Bushwick show, which also has free pizza courtesy of SIzzle Pie. It’s on the early side — 4 PM start.

Lisa Loeb, The Knights @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Bring the whole family to this year’s BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival children’s concert. Hopefully she’ll throw in “Stay” for the parents.

CONTAINER, Urochromes, Shimmer @ Union Pool (Summer Thunder)
Another of our favorite summer in NYC traditions is Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder series which brings music every Saturday in their back patio. Today’s show is headlined by Providence electronic artist CONTAINER whos music is both danceable and difficult, plus Massachusetts hardcore punks Urochromes, and Shimmer.

Muuy Biien, Material Girls @ Union Pool
Athens, GA’s Muuy Biien play dark postpunk, emphasis on the punk end, like an unlit garage. Crowds tend to be wild.
