What's going on Saturday?

TWIABP in CT, 2015 (more by Nick Karp)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid To Die, Rozwell Kid, Animal Flag @ Market Hotel
TWIABP recently released their third album, Always Foreign, which has the same type of communal ambition as its predecessors but also some clear differences. It’s the band’s most political album, and there’s some new stuff going on musically too. It’s great stuff, and their live shows are always great too.

The Mr. T Experience, Kepi Ghoulie @ Saint Vitus
Classic Lookout! band The Mr. T Experience and Kepi Ghoulie of MTX’s former labelmates Groovie Ghoulies are playing just a couple shows together this week. This is the second and it’s sold out.

Swingin’ Utters, Western Settings, Darius Koski @ The Bowery Electric
Long-running Fat Wrecks Band Swingin’ Utters are on tour, and for these dates, guitarist Darius Koski is pulling double duty by playing in Swingin’ Utters and opening with his solo project. These are also his solo project’s first-ever full-band shows.

Pyrolatrous, Gnaw, Mick Barr @ Union Pool
Pyrolatrous, another band of Krallice’s Lev Weinstein, celebrate their new album at this show. It’s a good show all around, with the noisy Gnaw (who also recently released a new LP) and Lev’s Krallice bandmate Mick Barr playing a solo set.

A. Savage (of Parquet Courts), Jack Cooper (of Ultimate Painting), Gift Wrap @ Murmrr Theatre
Andrew Savage of Parquet Courts and Jack Copper of Ultimate Painting both just released solo albums and are on tour together. Backed by Jarvis and Aaron of Woods, both Savage and Cooper with play on each others songs, which should make for a memorable evening.

NY Comedy Festival
The 2017 NYCF enters the home stretch with shows from Nick Offerman, “Adam Ruins Everything,” Bill Maher, Kurt Braunohler, Grace Helbig, Jim Norton, and more.

Escape-ism, IUD (members of Gang Gang Dance), Shells (members of Tyvek) @ Ceremony
Ian Svenonius celebrates the release of his Escape-Ism solo album tonight, with an equally art-punk undercard.

Humans, Courtship Ritual @ Elsewhere
Brooklyn duo Courtship Ritual make mossy, dark synthpop that owes a little to goth like Love & Rockets. They just released a new EP on Godmode.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers, White Lighters, Brian Merrill @ Our Wicked Lady
LA garage-psych crew Frankie & The Witch Fingers are direct sonic descendants of head-trippers like The 13th Floor Elevators, The Pretty Things and The Seeds, and have an energy and approach to songcraft that most of the groups in this crowded genre don’t.

The English Beat, The Pomps @ Highline Ballroom
While Dave Wakeling is the ohly original member of The Beat left in the band, it’s hard to deny their bucketful of great songs, from “Mirror in the Bathroom” and “Too Nice to Talk To” through “Save it For Later” and “I Confess.” They’ll probably play a General Public song or two, as well.

The Rebel (Ben Wallers of The Country Teasers), Palberta, Conduit, Brandy, PC Worship @ The Glove
The Rebel is the current musical project of Ben Wallers from Scottish band Country Teasers. Fans of Mekons, The Fall and other thoughtful, arty punks, take note.

Jack White, Elinor Blake @ Barnes & Noble (UWS)
Did you know Jack White wrote a children’s book? It’s titled We’re Going to Be Friends which he made with Elinor Blake who some of you may remember as Frenchy pop singer April March. Jack and Elinor will be at this B&N to celebrate its release. Wristbands will be given out at 9 AM and the event is at 11 AM.

Bruce Cockburn @ City Winery
The great Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn, perhaps best known for his 1984 hit “If I Had a Rocket Launcher,” is still going strong, having Bone on Bone this year.

Mx Justin Vivian Bond @ NYU Skirball Center
Singer, songwriter, artist, actor, one half of Kiki & Herb, Mx Justin Vivian Bond presents a “raucous and seductive evening of songs and stories.”

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.
