What's going on Saturday (Hanukkah Night 7)?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Yo La Tengo @ Bowery Ballroom
It’s the penultimate night of Yo La Tengo’s 2019 Hanukkah run which, like every night, will include surprise comedian and musical act openers, as well as special guests during the encore. Proceeds go to charity.

Phish @ Madison Square Garden
Another NYC tradition is Phish’s annual New Year’s run, and the 2019 edition begins tonight.

Medeski, Martin, Metzger & Cline @ Sony Hall
…and there’ll be a Phish afterparty at Sony Hall following the MSG show, which features collaborators John Medeski and Billy Martin, alongside Wilco’s Nels Cline and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger, who will come together for “an evening of improvisational music.”

Gogol Bordello, Dub Trio @ Webster Hall
Gypsy punks Gogol Bordello can almost always be counted on to bring their wild live show to NYC around the holidays, and this year is no different. They wrap up their two-night stand at Webster Hall tonight.

Steel Pulse @ Brooklyn Bowl
Still led by founding member David Hinds, UK reggae greats Steel Pulse have been going strong for over 40 years, but are best-known for late-’70s classics like “Ku Klux Klan,” “Prodigal Son,” and “Sound System.”

Poison Idea, YDI, Deathcycle, Killer Of Sheep, Mati @ Gold Sounds Bar
Portland punk legends Poison Idea are saying their current December run of dates are their “last ever shows,” and though they’ve said this before, you still might not want to risk missing this potentially-last chance to see them.

David Byrne’s American Utopia @ Hudson Theatre
David Byrne has retooled his acclaimed “untethered” 2018 for the Broadway stage and while the setlist and arrangements are much like what they were on his tour, songs are now threaded together with new monologues from Byrne, making for a much more theatrical experience.

Combo Chimbita, Sun Ra Arkestra @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
Brooklyn tropical futurists Combo Chimbita play a special holiday hometown show at Knitting Factory tonight, with support from Sun Ra Arkestra, which should make for a killer double-bill.

Death Threat, Mindforce, Restraining Order, The Answer @ The Kingsland
New Haven hardcore faves Death Threat stop by NYC for this one-off holiday show. It’s a solid bill all around with Mindforce, Restraining Order, and The Answer.

GWAR, Unearth, Savage Master @ Warsaw
Viscera-spewing space mutant shredders GWAR bring their current “Use Your Collusion” tour to Brooklyn tonight, their second in a run of Northeastern holiday shows with Unearth and Savage Master.

Sandra Bernhard @ Joe’s Pub
Sandra Bernhard is currently doing her 10th-annual New Year’s run at Joe’s Pub, titled “Sandy’s Holiday Extravaganza – A Decade of Madness and Mayhem.” There’s an early and late show tonight, where she plans to “lift you up and soothe your frazzled holiday nerves.”

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
