You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Land of Talk, Little Scream @ Bowery Ballroom
Canada's Land of Talk are back after an extended absence. Tonight they play with their old friend Little Scream.
Mac DeMarco, Elliot Vincent Jones @ Webster Hall
Equal parts heartelt, funny and crude, Mac DeMarco's popularity continues to grow, and he plays three sold-out nights at Webster Hall this week. Opening tonight is Toronto synthpop artist Elliot Vincent Jones.
Antietam, Wharton Tiers, Um @ Union Pool
Originally from Louisville, KY, indie rockers Anteitam have called NYC home for some time. Their sound works a droney-yet-melodic style that isn’t too far away from Yo La Tengo.
Mark Pritchard & Jonathan Zawada: Under the Sun @ Red Bull Studios
Electronic musician Mark Pritchard just released his new album Under the Sun and it, among other things, features collaborations with Thom Yorke and Linda Perhacs. Tonight he’ll perform music from it with an “immersive audiovisual experience” made in collaboration with visual artist Jonathan Zawada, part of Red Bull Music Academy.
Daniel Romano @ Rough Trade
Canadian artist Daniel Romano has a new album coming. He recently released the single which is a string-filled dose of country psychedelia, not too far removed from Lee Hazlewood.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, FORMA, Ohal @ Baby's All Right
Having just been touring with Animal Collective, ambient pop artist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith headlines her own small show in Brooklyn tonight.
Corners, Roya, Decorum @ Berlin
Los Angeles band Corners pull equally from surf/garage and early-'80s minimal postpunk. They play tonight with Roya (featuring members of Habibi, Grooms and The Clean), and dark, double-bass attack of Decorum.
Slonk Donkerson, Haybaby, Total Slaker, Lazyeyes, Le Rug, Jangula, Stringer @ Alphaville (Gigawatts)
Brooklyn zine 1.21 Gigawatts is shutting down, and they're saying goodbye with a final Gigawatts Festival. This is the second and final night.
Say Anything, mewithoutYou, Teen Suicide, Museum Mouth @ Starland Ballroom
This bill is pretty awesome all around. Say Anything’s early material has proved to be influential on a handful of newer indie/emo bands, the shapeshifting mewithoutYou reignited their career last year with their best album since the mid-2000s, and Teen Suicide and Museum Mouth are both two promising young bands in the lo-fi punk world.
'The Damned: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead' screening @ Rough Trade
This documentary about iconic UK punk band The Damned features interviews with Chrissie Hynde, Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Billy Idol, Mick Jones (The Clash), Lemmy and members of Pink Floyd, Black Flag, the Sex Pistols, Blondie, Buzzcocks, and more. 5:30 PM, free.
Jose James @ Blue Note (2 shows)
Neo-soul great Jose James wraps up his residency at the Blue Note tonight with two shows.
Kiki & Herb @ Joe's Pub
Legendary lounge/cabaret duo Kiki and Herb (aka Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman) went into retirement in 2007 but they’re returning to the stage for this run called “Kiki and Herb: Seeking Asylum!” Sold out but a limited number of tickets given away free each night via lottery.
Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which was recently extended through May.
Comedy Bang! Bang! Live! @ Gramercy Theatre (2 shows)
Scott Aukerman is taking Comedy Bang! Bang! on the road with Paul F. Tompkins, Lauren Lapkus, and Neil Campbell. This is their final of three sold-out nights at Gramercy, with two separate shows happening tonight.
