What’s going on Sunday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Panorama @ Randall's Island
It's the final day of Panorama fest on Randall's Island and Sunday sports perhaps the strongest lineup of the weekend, with The Killers, The xx, David Byrne, Fleet Foxes, Mount Kimbie, Jlin, Laurel Halo, Shannon & The Clams, Downtown Boys and more
Bass Drum of Death, Sleeparound, Grim Streaker @ Baby's All Right
Oxford, Mississippi's Bass Drum of Death just released their first album in four years, Just Business, and are celebrating with this Brooklyn show tonight.
Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Jupiter & Okwess, Geko Jones (DJ Set) @ Central Park SummerStage
Femi Kuti's band is perfectly named -- they're are positive forces and one of afrobeat's leading lights. Free show
Lost Boy?, Thick, Big Huge, gobbinjr, DJ Alexander Orange Drink (So So Glos) @ Riis Park Beach Bazaar
Chill at Riis Park Beach Bazaar in the Rockaways and catch some quality indie rock and punk while you're there. THis free show is brought to you by the folks behind shuttered DIY venue Shea Stadium.
The LOX, Young M.A., Funk Flex @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk
New York rap trio The LOX (aka Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch) are back in action and just as furious as ever. Tonight, they play a free SummerStage show in Coney Island with the great newer New York rapper Young M.A (who clearly takes influence from The LOX and has collaborated with Jadakiss). Funk Flex is on the ones and twos and Torae is your host for the evening.
Slayer, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Napalm Death, Testament @ Jones Beach
Slayer (who at this point are original members Tom Araya and Kerry King, '90s-era drummer Paul Bostaph, and Exodus' Gary Holt) are on what they're saying is their "final" tour, and this possibly last chance to see them is worth taking. Even though it's just two original members, they still rip and the classics sound great. They've also got KILLER support lined up, including comparatively newer band Lamb of God, fellow thrash legends Anthrax and Testament, and grindcore pioneers Napalm Death.
Amanda Shires, Sean Rowe @ Rough Trade
Talented alt-country singer/songwriter Amanda Shires releases her new album To The Sunset this week, but first she plays this small pre-release show.
Tyler Childers, Anthony D'Amato @ Asbury Lanes
Another worthy modern-day country option tonight is Tyler Childers, who brings his tour to Asbury Park tonight. He plays Brooklyn in October.
Witch Mountain, Sanhedrin, High Reeper @ Saint Vitus
Portland stoner rockers Witch Mountain returned this year with their howling self-titled album, and tonight they bring their tour to NYC with quality local support from Sanhendrin, plus Philly hard rockers High Reeper.
