What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions, Holy Wave @ Brooklyn Steel
The former Mazzy Star singer just released a new EP featuring Kurt Vile and is currently on tour with The Warm Inventions (that includes My Bloody Valentine’s Colm Ó Cíosóig). Her voice is still magic.

Smoking Popes, Chris Farren, The Young Rochelles, The Bigger Empty @ Knitting Factory
Crooning ’90s alt-rockers Smoking Popes are still going strong and recently released their first new music with their original lineup since 1998 (a two-song single on Asian Man Records). They’re on tour now with Chris Farren, who is not to miss.

Jonah Matranga, Meghann Wright @ Mercury Lounge
Jonah Matranga (of Far, onelinedrawing, New End Original, and more) has been having a busy year. He released the debut EP by his band Camorra (which also includes Jawbox’s J Robbins) and he published a book.

Soulfly Does Nailbomb, Cannabis Corpse, Lody Kong, Noisem @ Gramercy Theatre
Max Cavalera’s band Soulfly are in NYC tonight to perform 1994’s Point Blank, the sole album by Max’s Nailbomb project. Openers include weed pun lovers Cannabis Corpse, Max Cavalera’s sons’ band Lody Kong, and the new version of Noisem (they recently replaced their lead singer).

Majid Jordan @ Irving Plaza
R&B duo and Drake collaborators Majid Jordan are releasing their new album The Space Between this Friday. First they play this Irving Plaza show, and they return to NYC in 2018 to play the larger Terminal 5.

Psychedelic Furs, Bash and Pop @ Warsaw
While not the most obvious double bill, it will surely be a fun night with ’80s alt-rock mainstays the P-Furs, and Tommy Stinson’s post-Mats band Bash and Pop.

Marc Bolan & T Rex tribute w/ Rolan Bolan, Suzanne Vega, Joe Hurley, Edward Rogers, Lloyd Cole, Clem Burke (Blondie), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith Group) & more @ City Winery
A whole bunch of cool artists are on board for this tribute to T-Rex frontman and glam rock icon Marc Bolan on the 40th anniversary of his death.

Ryan McNamara & John Zorn @ Guggenheim Museum
“Collaborating with a community of dancers and artists with whom he has worked for years, Ryan McNamara will create a performance set to Commedia dell’arte by composer John Zorn.”

Losers Lounge Tribute to Bee Gees @ Joe’s Pub
For 20+ years Joe McGinty has been leading the Losers Lounge, paying tribute to different artists with his talented band and a host of surprise guest vocalists. Tonight: The Brothers Gibb. This is a 1 PM show.
