Halloween at Elsewhere
Combo Chimbita @ Elsewhere (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Now Now, Wens @ Baby’s All Right
Now, Now returned this year with Saved, their first album in six years, which is a bit more pop than their indie rock-leaning past material, but a worthy album nonetheless.

Antibalas, Combo Chimbita, Nickodemus @ Prospect Park Bandshell
The free shows in Prospect Park continue tonight, with this appealing bill headlined by local Afrobeat greats Antibalas. Also on the bill: Combo Chimbita, who take elements of cumbia, 70s funaná, Haitian kompa, salsa, reggae, psych, and other styles and blend it for their own unique sound.

The So So Glos, Honduras, Thick @ Rocks Off Concert Cruises
Brooklyn punks The So So Glos always put on a very fun show, and tonight they’ll be sure to do just that as they board a Rocks Off cruise in their home city.

The Front Bottoms, Thrice, The Get Up Kids & more @ Great South Bay Music Festival (Long Island)
Long Island’s Great South Bay Music Fest always has a lineup that’s all over the place, genre-wise, and they usually have one day dedicated to the emo/post-hardcore/etc sound that LI was very known for in the early 2000s. Today is that day, and there’s some great stuff lined up, like one of the current frontrunners of this scene, NJ’s folk-leaning Front Bottoms, post-hc vets Thrice (for whom this is their first show since announcing their new album Palms), and reunited ’90s emo band Get Up Kids, who just released their very fun Kicker EP on Polyvinyl.

Gov’t Mule, The Avett Brothers, The Magpie Salute @ Jones Beach
Gov’t Mule, the band led by jam staple Warren Haynes (Dead family, Allman Bros, etc), are currently on tour doing their “Dark Side of the Mule” Pink Floyd tribute show. It’s co-headlining with folk rockers Avett Brothers, which is a pretty intriguing double bill.

Horse Lords, Marilu Donovan, Anna & Elizabeth @ Secret Project Robot
Baltimore experimental rockers Horse Lords headline this show, and it’s also worth catching openers Anna & Elizabeth, the very unique folk duo who released the excellent The Invisible Comes To Us earlier this year.

Tierra Whack, Nessly, Miss Milan, Dylan The Gypsy, DJ Yamez @ Baby’s All Right
Philly rapper Tierra Whack has been continuing to pick up buzz for this year’s eccentric Whack World, which has 15 songs in 15 minutes. Having recently played Warm Up, she added this last-minute NYC show before she heads out on tour opening for Lauryn Hill.

Toshi Reagon, TOSHI REAGON & BIGLOVELY @ Wagner Park
Folk, blues and gospel musician Toshi Reagon headline this week’s free River & Blues concert in Battery Park City.

Rhett Miller, Clarence Bucaro @ City Winery
Rhett Miller always seems to be touring, and he’s a charming entertainer whether it’s solo acoustic or kicking up dust with Old ’97s.

Kishi Bashi, Ensemble LPR @ Le Poisson Rouge
The pseudonym of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kaoru Ishibashi, Kishi Bashi plays a special show tonight with a double string quartet as part of Le Poisson Rouge’s 10th anniversary.

David Longstreth & Nat Baldwin @ Strand Bookstore
Dirty Projectors‘ new album, Lamp Lit Prose, is out this week and the day before it drops, main man David Longstreth will be talking about the record with DP bassist Nat Baldwin in The Strand’s Rare Book Room. Maybe they’ll play a song or two, too?

Night Screams, Grim Streaker, Dead Stars, Gustaf, Robot Princess @ Pianos
Part of Indie Venue Week, this showcase is highlighted by Brooklyn band Gustaf who channel late-’70s post-punk and have an undeniable live energy.

Todd Barry @ White Eagle Hall
Comedian Todd Barry is about as dry and acerbic as you can get and is especially good at “crowd work” (aka asking the audience questions and then making fun of them). Tonight’s show is all crowd work and if you can stand the heat it’s not to be missed.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

Pop Show @ Union Hall
Ziwe Fumudoh (The Rundown with Robin Thede) tries to inject some glamor into the dank basement theatre of Union Hall with her monthly showcase “Pop Show,” in which comedians perform original pop songs. This month’s lineup features some of the most fabulous names in comedy, including Julio Torres (SNL), Patti Harrison (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Search Party), Larry Owens (TruTv’s Paid Off), Dewayne Perkins (Conan, Comedy Central), musician Showtime Goma, Alex English (The Rundown with Robin Thede), and Lauren Ashley Smith (The Rundown with Robin Thede).

Taste Flavor @ UCBeast
Alyssa Stonoha (Three Busy Debras) hosts this monthly variety show featuring local and national talent. This month’s show features one of our favorites, Aparna Nancherla, who has taken a break from hosting Butterboy to film another season of Comedy Central’s Corporate, Tallie Medel (Cocoon Central Dance Team, Broad City), Eudora Peterson (Brooklyn Comedy Fest), and Moss Perricone (PukeFest).
