What's going on Thursday?

Happy Valentine’s Day! You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Peter Murphy w/ David J. @ Terminal 5
Peter Murphy brings his 40 Years of Bauhaus Ruby Celebration tour, featuring fellow Bauhaus alum David J to NYC for this dark valentine featuring In the Flat Field in full, plus a second set of classics.

St. Vincent @ The Appel Room (American Songbook)
St. Vincent just put on an awesome, electric performance at the Grammys, but tonight she’s turning things down for another of her piano-and-vocal sets with Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman), in the same vein as the stripped-down MassEducation album they released last year. Not surprisingly, this show is long sold out.

Thundercat @ Blue Note (2 shows)
He’s collaborated with everyone from Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar to Michael McDonald and Suicidal Tendencies — the genre-defying bassist continues his Blue Note residency tonight with two shows.

Adrianne Lenker, Luke Temple @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Big Thief’s Adrianna Lenker released the intimate, delicate abysskiss last year, and those songs will make MHOW seem a little more intimate too. Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple opens.

Panda Bear @ Pioneer Works
Panda Bear is fresh off releasing his new album Buoys, which is cut from a similar cloth as his last few albums but brings some prominent acoustic guitar back into his sound. He hits Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works tonight and tomorrow.

Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Meyhem Lauren @ Warsaw
Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Meyhem Lauren all stay true to the way New York rap sounded during its classic ’90s era, but they keep things weird enough that it sounds forward-thinking today too. The three of them on one bill should be a blast.

Joji, Rei Brown @ Bowery Ballroom
Joji had a busy 2018 with the release of his own new album BALLADS 1 as well as his contributions to the 88rising crew album. Tonight, he brings his headlining tour to NYC.

Talib Kweli, NIKO IS, K’Valentine @ BRIC House
Talib Kweli celebrates Valentine’s Day with a love letter to his hometown. This sold-out show is billed as “Talib Kweli: A Love Note to Brooklyn” and it features Talib’s close pals NIKO IS and K’Valentine.

Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, The National Reserve @ Knitting Factory
Alt-country badass Sarah Shook is on the road supporting her 2018 album Years (which was listed as a 2018 favorite by Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace and Western Addiction’s Jason Hall). The tour lands in Brooklyn tonight.

Erin Rae, Andrew Combs, New Rose @ Baby’s All Right
Fans of folky singer/songwriters should dig the double-billed tour of Erin Rae and Andrew Combs, which hits Brooklyn tonight.

Pecas, NOIA, Courtship Ritual @ ALPHAVILLE
Tonight’s a release party for Pecas’ new video but do get their early for duo Courtship Ritual who, in the live setting, pair their slinky, gothy synthpop with belly dancers and mirrors.

Starchild & The New Romantics, Quiet Luke, Bathe @ Elsewhere Zone One
If you miss the days of ’80s and early-’90s R&B, Starchild’s music hits that sweet spot of Prince’s shared universe.

Tredici Bacci, Jazzboy @ Mercury Lounge
Brooklyn’s Tredici Bacci have made a name for themselves by recreating the kind of groovy, orchestral, soundtracky pop that falls somewhere between Burt Bacharach and Ennio Morricone. The group’s second album, La Fine Del Futuro, is out in March.

A Smiths Valentine’s Day w/ The Sons and Heirs @ The Bell House
It’s the eighth annual Smiths Valentine’s Day party at The Bell House, featuring tribute act The Sons and Heirs, with Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield as host.

Lydia Lunch, Tim Dahl, Matt Nelson @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
No wave and punk icon Lydia Lunch presents this night of “Verbal Burlesque” where she’ll be backed by Tim Dahl and Matt Nelson. MV Carbon opens.

PAT Party, JD Samson @ Union Pool
It’s time for the Valentine’s Day edition of JD Samson’s monthly PAT Party, featuring “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.” DJs include Justin Strauss, Tyler Kinesis and, appropriately, Amber Valentine.
