You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Stephen Malkmus @ The Kitchen (2 shows)
Having spent most of his post-Pavement careen with backing band The Jicks, Stephen Malkmus is embarking on an actual solo tour in support of his first Jicks-free album. Tonight will be his first shows like this, so who knows what to expect?

Morrissey @ Lunt Fontanne Theatre
With a new covers album out later this month, Morrissey begins his Broadway run tonight which is being billed as an "intimate career-retrospective show." Whether that will be any different than his other shows remains to be seen. Also: Johnny Marr played the NY-area last night and has today off...it'll never happen, but we couldn't help but note their proximity.

Cher, Nile Rodgers & Chic @ Barclays Center
Having had hits in most of the decades since the '60s, Cher is a pop icon with real staying power. Pairing her with Chic should make for a glitzy, fun evening.

Patti Smith & Her Band @ Webster Hall
Another icon, of a different sort, Patti Smith plays her second straight night at the newly revamped Webster Hall.

Deer Tick, Courtney Marie Andrews @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Country rock greats Deer Tick, who released Mayonnaise earlier this year, play their second of three shows with Courtney Marie Andrews.

TR/ST, Lydia Ainsworth @ Elsewhere
Robert Alfons has been making gothy, house-y pop as TR/ST for the better part of a decade and just released the first of two albums this year.

Weatherbox, Person L, Fire Is Motion, Sal Show @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Weatherbox were always one of the more original indie/emo bands around, so it's exciting news that they ended their hiatus after just three years. This is their first NYC show since returning.

GZA (performing Liquid Swords) @ Sony Hall
It's a busy year for the GZA. Not only are Wu-Tang playing their classic 36 Chambers on a massive tour this year, GZA is doing performances of his solo classic Liquid Swords as well. He'll be backed by a full band at tonight's show.

Talib Kweli (live with full band), Dudley Music, Jessica Care Moore, and Funk Flex @ Brooklyn Bowl
Talib Kweli has long been a staple of Brooklyn hip hop and he’s always worth seeing. This week, he graces his hometown with three consecutive full-band shows at Brooklyn Bowl, this being the second.

Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Brandi and the Alexanders @ Le Poisson Rouge
Soul revivalist Eli "Paperboy" Reed is still staying true to the '60s/'70s sounds that he loves, as evidenced on this year's 99 Cent Dreams. His first NYC show since the album's release is tonight.

(Sandy) Alex G, Tomberlin @ House of Independents
This is a cool double bill with the unique slacker-ish sounds of (Sandy) Alex G and the lyrical singer/songwriter sounds of Tomberlin. There's no NYC show on this run but they're hitting Asbury Park tonight.
