Hunx & His Punx

What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

John Fogerty @ Radio City Music Hall
While Woodstock 50 is not happening this weekend, John will probably share a few stories about Creedence Clearwater Revival’s appearance at the original festival, and play lots of their songs as well as solo favorites tonight.

Hunx & His Punx, Big Huge, Control Top @ Elsewhere
Seth Bogart has been making music under his own name the last few years but has revived his bubblegum garage punk alter ego Hunx for this show — if you’re going do get there early to catch the great Control Top.

‘Desolation Center’ screening w/ Lee Ranaldo, more @ Green-Wood Cemetery (Rooftop Films)
Rooftop Films is presenting this screening of documentary Desolation Center which tells “the untold story of a series of early ’80s guerrilla music and art performance happenings in Southern California that paved the way for Burning Man, Lollapalooza, and Coachella… Collective experiences that have become key elements of popular culture in the 21st century.” Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Bob Bert will participate in a post-screening Q&A and Lee will perform as well. Parlor Walls play before the film.

(Sandy) Alex G @ The Sultan Room
With his new album due in a month, and a big tour on the horizon, (Sandy) Alex G will play this very intimate, FADER-sponsored show at new Bushwick venue The Sultan Room.

Mutual Benefit, Spookfish, Molly Fletcher @ Mercury Lounge
Mutual Benefit, the project of singer-songwriter Jordan Lee, released Thunder Follows The Light last year, and he’ll be bringing those orch-folk songs to life tonight.

Randy Randall, Jason Lytle @ 98 Orchard Gallery
Jason Lytle of Grandaddy and Randy Randall of No Age are both performing solo at the Arthur King event that also includes “film screenings and an interactive multi media installation.” Free with RSVP.

Lillie Mae @ Baby’s All Right
Folk/country singer Lillie Mae got a breakthrough in her career when she started collaborating with Jack White, but her new album Other Girls proves she’s a great artist in her own right. It comes out this Friday and it’s her most haunting release yet.

Alice Cooper, Halestorm, Motionless In White @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Shock rock legend Alice Cooper is still at it, and recent tours have been as much of a hits-filled spectacle as you’d hope. He’s promising this tour will be an “all-new show,” so you’ll just have to go see it for yourself to find out what he’s got in store. The tour hits Holmdel, NJ tonight and Camden, NJ tomorrow.

Alexis Krauss (of Sleigh Bells), Cristina Martinez (Boss Hog), Cynthia Sley (Bush Tetras), Ann Courtney (Mother Feather), Dylan Hundley (Lulu Lewis), Leah Hennessey (Hennessey), Lydia Gammill (Gustaf), and more @ The Bowery Electric
This is a very cool lineup for a very good cause: to fight abortion bans. Proceeds will go to the ACLU.

The Obsessed, Sinister Haze @ The Kingsland
Scott “Wino” Weinrich-led doom legends The Obsessed have been reunited for a few years now, not just for live shows but also for new music; in 2017, they released Sacred, their first new album since 1994.

Mikey Erg, Katie Ellen, Twiga @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Pretty much every year is a busy year for Mikey Erg, but this year that’s especially true. His classic band The Ergs! are doing a rare tour and he’s got a new solo album out that sees him exploring his less punk influences like jangle and power pop. He plays NYC tonight with great direct support from Katie Ellen.

The Lewd, Assholeparade, Slaughter Boys, Ammo, Burning Man @ Saint Vitus
San Francisco punks The Lewd were initially around in the ’70s and ’80s before breaking up (members went on to play in Metal Church and Social Distortion), and now original singer J. Satz Baret leads a re-activated version of the band who are playing their first-ever NYC show tonight.

Black Flag, Line Cutters, The Fatalitees @ The Chance
Black Flag, whose current lineup includes founder/songwriter Greg Ginn and three newer members (including pro skater Mike Vallely on vocals), are in the midst of a lengthy tour and their first in years. They played Brooklyn on Monday and they’re hitting Poughkeepsie tonight.

Joyce Manor, Saves The Day, awakebutstillinbed @ Revolution
Joyce Manor have established themselves as one of the best bands in the recent indie/emo/punk wave and Saves The Day were one of the best bands in the late ’90s/early ’00s wave of the genre(s), so this tour is a perfectly matched multi-generational pairing. Making it even better is indie-screamo group awakebutstillinbed, who are one of the more promising new bands in the scene. The tour hits Long Island tonight and Manhattan tomorrow.

Skullshitter, Deathgrave, Oldest @ Brooklyn Bazaar
California deathgrinders Deathgrave released their debut album So Real, It’s Now last year on Tankcrimes, and they’re now on an East Coast tour with New York grinders Skullshitter.

Padma Puts On Another Comedy Show @ The Bell House
Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi put on a comedy show at the Bell House last year in protest of Louis CK, and now she’s doing it again, with proceeds benefiting National Network of Abortion Funds. There are early and late shows and performers include SNL’s Bowen Yang, Los Espookys’ Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega, Chris Gethard, Roy Wood JR, Michelle Buteau, Maeve Higgins and more.
