Gruff Rhys at Roundhouse
Gruff Rhys in London earlier this year (more by Christopher Jesse Juarez)

What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Raconteurs @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Jack White, Brendan Benson & co re-activated The Raconteurs late last year, and this year they released their first new album in 11 years, Help Us Stranger, which is a genuinely great comeback and the best Jack White-related album in years. They celebrated it with four intimate NYC shows back in June (where they sounded great), and now their proper tour brings them back to NYC for three larger shows. They’re at Hammerstein tonight and tomorrow, and Kings Theatre on Saturday.

Hot Chip, Holy Fuck @ Brooklyn Steel
Hot Chip’s latest LP A Bath Full of Ecstasy shows the group still at the top of their game, and tonight they wrap up their three-night run at Brooklyn Steel. Excellent support comes from experimental dance unit Holy Fuck.

Gruff Rhys, Lorkin O’Reilly @ Elsewhere Rooftop
Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys releases new solo album, Pang!, next week and it’s  a collaboration with South African electronic artist Muzi that’s not quite like anything he’s done before. He kicks off his solo tour tonight, where he’ll be accompanied by drummer Kliph Scurlock, on Elsewhere’s rooftop.

Phantogram, VERITE @ Kings Theatre
Alt-popsters Phantogram haven’t announced a new album yet but they seem to have something up their sleeves. They recently released some new music, and now they’re on a tour that hits Brooklyn’s gorgeous Kings Theatre tonight.

Girl In Red, Isaac Dunbar @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Norwegian bedroom pop artist Girl In Red releases her Chapter 2 EP this week, and she continues to rapidly rise. Tonight’s MHOW show is sold out.

Philip Glass and The Spiritual Voice of the Wixarika Music @ Le Poisson Rouge
Experimental composer Philip Glass is at LPR tonight and tomorrow presenting The Spirit of the Earth, which is a tribute to the indigenous cultures of Mexico.

Dehd, Deeper, Patio, Media Jeweler @ Baby’s All Right
Fire Talk Records is celebrating its 10th anniversary and are throwing themselves a party with some of the best of its roster, including Dehd and Deeper (both in from Chicago), Brooklyn’s Patio, Media Jeweler, guest DJs and moer.

Giuda, Dirty Fences, The Royal Hounds, Fat Heaven @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Italian band Giuda released E.V.A. earlier this year which brought a space-age theme to the group’s party-friendly glam-punk sound.

Of Monsters and Men, Lower Dens @ Radio City Music Hall
Iceland’s sweeping folk-pop group Of Monsters and Men are on tour supporting new album Fever Dream. Surprisingly along for the ride are Baltimore’s Lower Dens, whose new album is out Friday.

“Janeane Garofalo Has Guests” w/ David Cross, Martin Urbano, Shalewa Sharpe, Caitlin Peluffo, Ethan Simmons-Patterson @ Littlefield
As the title gives away, Janeane Garofalo curated tonight’s lineup of comedians, including her old friend David Cross, and more.

Night Sins, Adorns, Forever Chasing Honey Bees @ Saint Vitus
Saint Vitus hosts a Nothing Changes party headlined by Night Sins, the goth/EBM project of Nothing drummer Kyle Kimball.
