What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Brand New, Modest Mouse @ Madison Square Garden
MSG hosts a double bill of two bands who’ve left a major impact on modern rock. There’s Brand New, who appear to be getting closer and closer to their fifth album (and who are playing some new singles on this tour), and Modest Mouse, whose first album since 2007 came out last year. Both bands will of course load their sets with classics too.

Girl Band, Greys, Bambara @ Baby’s All Right
On their way to Pitchfork fest, Ireland’s firey Girl Band are making a pit stop in NYC. They’re an intense live act, and with a great undercard of Canada’s Greys, and Brooklyn hard-hitters Bambara, this is an all-around good choice for your Thursday.

Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang @ Manhattan Bridge Archway
For the second year in a row, DUMBO is playing host to the Live At the Archway series, which is “a weekly cabaret below the Manhattan Bridge with free performances, beer, wine, and a magical, only-in-DUMBO setting.” Today is Brooklyn’s resident bubu impresario Janka Nabay. Free, and he’s on at 6 PM.

King Sunny Ade @ MetroTech Commons R&B Festival at MetroTech 2016
Today’s edition of BAM’s free lunchtime R&B Festival series features Nigerian musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and world music icon King Sunny Ade.

Night Beats @ MoMA Summer Thursdays
Seattle’s superior garage rock outfit Night Beats play tonight’s edition of MoMA Nights which happens in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. 5:30 – 8 PM, and free with museum entry.

Gojira @ Saint Vitus Bar
French death metal greats Gojira returned this year with Magma, which delivers more of their unique sound and is another winner. Tonight they play an intimate sold-out NYC show ahead of their fall tour, which returns here at the much larger Terminal 5.

Wildhoney, Literature, Infinity Girl, Weed Hounds @ Shea Stadium
Two great Baltimore bands — poppy shoegazers Wildhoney and hyperactive janglers Literature — highlight this show.

The Muffs, Baby Shakes, The Jeanies @ Union Pool
Poppy garage punks The Muffs put out a handful of albums in the ’90s that still sound great today, and 2014’s comeback album Whoop Dee Doo is just as spirited as their classic material.

Lame Drivers, Jared Leibowich (of the Zoltars), Gingerlys, Kissing Is A Crime @ Cake Shop
It’s a great night of local indie rock, headlined by long-running band Lame Drivers who put out the terrific Chosen Era late last year.

Speedy Ortiz, Vasudeva, Spowder @ Hasbrouck Heights VFW
Over in Jersey, one of the better modern indie rock bands, Speedy Ortiz, plays tonight.

Lil Bibby @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
In March, Chicago’s Lil Bibby opened for Pusha T alongside future collaborator G Herbo. Bibby’s last release was 2015’s Free Crack 3 and he’s reportedly planning a G Herbo collab to follow.

Direct Hit, Pkew Pkew Pkew, Problem Daughter @ Fat Baby
If you’re looking for a night of raw pop punk, this whole bill should do the trick.
