What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Sloan @ Bowery Ballroom
On their current tour, Canadian rock greats Sloan are celebrating their 1998 album Navy Blues which found them toying with ’70s hard rock riffage, glam and power pop. It’s one of their best and they’ll play it in full, followed by second set culled from their rest of their deep catalog.

Telefon Tel Aviv, Steve Hauschildt, Throne of Blood @ Public Records
Joshua Eustis brought Telefon Tel Aviv out of retirement in 2016, and last year released the first new TTA album in 10 years, Dreams Are Not Enough. His rich electronic tapestry should sound especially good though Public Records’ killer soundsystem.

Chief Keef, Venus X, Slayter, Trap Manny, Hu Dat @ Knockdown Center
Chief Keef isn’t as omnipresent as he was during the “I Don’t Like” era, but he’s remained highly prolific on a smaller level and he brings his live show back to NYC tonight.

Haviah Mighty, Beth Million, Kamilah @ Mercury Lounge
Toronto rapper/singer Haviah Mighty is touring in support of her great, Polaris Prize-winning 2019 album 13th Floor, and hitting NYC tonight ahead of SXSW.

Ms. Lauryn Hill, Oshun @ The Capitol Theatre
The legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill is playing four NYC-area shows this month, including Port Chester tonight and NYC this Saturday. Oshun makes for well-matched support.

Jill Scott, D-Nice @ Radio City Music Hall
Need another veteran neo-soul singer in a gorgeous theater? Jill Scott celebrates the 20th anniversary of her 2000 debut album Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 at Radio City tonight.

Bill Frisell Duo w/ Ambrose Akinmusire @ Blue Note Jazz Club
Jazz guitar great Bill Frisell is in the midst of some shows at the Blue Note, and tonight he’s doing 8 and 10:30 PM duo sets with trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, who deservedly had a breakthrough with 2018’s Mivos Quartet and Kool AD-featuring Origami Harvest. Ambrose joins Bill at tomorrow’s shows as well

Chris Gethard Presents @ Union Pool
Chris Gethard’s current public access TV show hands the reins over to other comedians each week and let’s them create what they will. Tonight, Chris presents some of those comedians in standup form: Alex English, Monroe Martin III, Devin Bockrath, and “definitely not Carmen Christopher.”

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
