You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
Power Trip, Iron Reagan, Concealed Blade, Krimewatch @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Power Trip recently released the great Nightmare Logic, a rare modern thrash record that rivals its influences. They're on tour now with the very likeminded (and also awesome) Iron Reagan. Cool openers tonight too.
Grandaddy @ Rough Trade (early and late shows)
What Grandaddy does — chunky guitar and swirling synths spacerock with lyrical themes of ennui and alienation amidst the banalities of life — seems to resonate more than ever in 2017. The band wrap up their NYC release show onslaught tonight with two shows at Rough Trade: the early one you can get in buy pre-ordering their new album, Last Place, at the store; the late show is sold out.
She-Devils, Nicholas Nicholas @ The Glove
Montreal duo She-Devils, who use a variety of samples (pre-Beatles rock N' roll and country, exotica, circus music) to craft a dreamlike brand of pop, celebrate their signing with Secretly Canadian with this show tonight.
Operator Music Band, Jelani Sei, Zenizen, Straw Pipes @ Shea Stadium
Brooklyn’s Operator Music Band make motorik, analogue-synth noise rock that is probably the closest this city comes to Stereolab in 2017. They celebrate the release of their album Puzzlephonics I & II tonight.
Juicy J, Belly, Project Pat @ Irving Plaza
Juicy J remains forever relevant, and he's planning to release a new album Rubba Band Business: The Album at some point in the near future. He's on tour in support of it now.
Noname, Ravyn Lenae @ Le Poisson Rouge
Noname runs in the same circles as Chance the Rapper, and her 2016 project Telefone was one of last year's better rap debuts. She's on tour now with her Chicago neighbor, neo-soul singer Ravyn Lenae.
The Soul Rebels ft. Melle Mel, Rakim & surprise guests; Natasha Diggs @ Brooklyn Bow
NOLA brass band The Soul Rebels are known to be joined by very cool rappers at their shows, and their current three-night stay in NYC is no different. This is night 1, and it's got groundbreaking old school rapper Melle Mel (of “The Message” fame) and a guy who became a groundbreaker himself just a few years later, Rakim.
Lou Reed's Birthday Celebration w/ Steve Wynn (Dream syndicate), Oliver Ackermann (APTBS), Hamish KIlgour (The Clean), Joseph Arthur, Jesse Malin & many more @ Bowery Electric
The late, great Lou Reed would have turned 75 today. To celebrate his life, Bowery Electric is throwing this party with some very talented musicians.
Nikki Lane, Brent Cobb, Jonathan Tyler @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Earlier this month, alt-country singer Nikki Lane released her new album Highway Queen. She's playing the Stagecoach festival this year, but first she's headlining the Stagecoach Spotlight tour, which hits NYC tonight.
Shellshag, Big Bliss, Ritchie White Orchestra, Language @ The Gutter
One of the most unique and longest-running bands in NYC's DIY scene, Shellshag grace their hometown with another show tonight.
Mutual Benefit, Crosslegged, Spookfish, Boosegumps @ Silent Barn
Jordan Lee's baroque folk collective Mutual Benefit released their latest album, Skip a Sinking Stone, last year. They play an intimate Brooklyn show tonight.
inc. no world, Starchild and The New Romantic, Physical Therapy @ Baby's All Right
Alt-R&B duo inc. no world have changed their name a few times, but otherwise they're still going strong. Tonight they play Baby's with Blood Orange collaborator Starchild and electronic musician Physical Therapy.
