What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Japandroids, Cloud Nothings @ Brooklyn Steel
Japandroids and Cloud Nothings have been tied together for years now. They both had major breakouts in 2012, with Celebration Rock and Attack on Memory respectively, two helps that really helped put the “rock” back in “indie rock.” They also both put out very good new albums this year, on the same day no less.

The Weeknd, Migos, French Montana, Cardi B, Lil Uzi Vert, DJ Envy @ Barclays Center
Power 105.1’s annual Powerhouse has a stacked hip hop lineup as always, headlined by R&B crooner The Weeknd, and also featuring the year’s biggest rap breakout, Cardi B, plus trap hitmakers Migos and more.

Deradoorian, Jason McMahon, Charlie Looker @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Deradoorian recently released her mini-LP Eternal Recurrence. She made it with co-producer Ben Greenberg (of Uniform) and it’s nothing like 2015’s The Expanding Flower Planet but impressive and unique in its own way.

Citizen, Sorority Noise, Great Grandpa @ Irving Plaza
After exploring aggressive, noisy post-hardcore on 2015’s Everybody Is Going to Heaven, Citizen released their softest and prettiest album with this year’s As You Please. They’re on tour with Sorority Noise, whose 2017 LP You’re Not As _____ As You Think is their best yet, and Great Grandpa.

Origin, Archspire, Defeated Sanity, Dyscarnate, Visceral Disgorge, The Kennedy Veil @ Saint Vitus
Kansas death metal vets Origin, German tech-death vets Defeated Sanity, and more roll into Vitus tonight.

Ed Askew, The New Ones, Colby Nathan, Hope Simulator Pro @ Trans-Pecos
Psych-folk legend Ed Askew has two albums coming out soon, the new album Art and Life due out this week via Tin Angel Records (featuring Mary Lattimore and Josephine Foster), and an archival 1969-1970 release due out in November on Drag City. This is the release show for Art and Life.

Dalek, Street Sects, Vaureen, DJ John LaMacchia of Candiria / Spylacopa @ Knitting Factory
Industrial rap greats Dalek are back at it and staying prolific. They ended their hiatus from studio albums with 2016’s Asphalt to Edan and followed it this year with Endangered Philosophies. They’re on tour now with industrial punk duo Street Sects.

Jojo Abot, OSHUN @ Nublu
Jojo Abot and OSHUN are two of the most forward-thinking newcomers in NYC’s soul/R&B scene, and tonight they team up for this show together.

Walter TV, Hypoluxo, Jay Weingarten @ ALPHAVILLE
Mac DeMarco associates (and bandmates) Walter TV, who are a little more psych-oriented than their pal, recently released new album Carpe Diem.

Lords of Acid, Combichrist, Christian Death, En Esch, Wiccid @ Gramercy Theatre
It’s a full night of industrial/goth, including Belgium’s Lords of Acid, En Esch (ex-KMFDM, Pigface), the current lineup of Christian Death and more.

Mild High Club, Anemone, Olden Yolke @ Park Church Co-Op
Jazzy and chill, Mild High Club’s sound is somewhere between between Steely Dan and the Beach Boys. This is their first of two shows with Montreal’s Anemone.

Tribute to The Cramps @ The Bowery Electric
NYC psychobilly icons The Cramps will once again be paid tribute to at the Halloween edition of the “Sally Can’t Dance” featuring Bob Bert (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore), Mick Collins (Dirtbombs, Gories), Peter Zaremba (The Fleshtones), Eric Davidson (New Bomb Turks), Palmyra Delran (The Friggs), and many many more.

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.

PAT @ Union Pool
It’s the Halloween edition of JD Samson’s monthly PAT Party, featuring “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.” Those DJs tonight include Eli Escobar, Amber Valentine and more.

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band W/ Nicki Bluhm & Robert Randolph @ Convention Hall
Original Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh returns to the tristate area for four shows this week, concluding with the Capitol Theatre on Halloween. He’s joined by the Terrapin Family Band and guests Nicki Bluhm and Robert Randolph.

Bowl Train w/ Talib Kweli (DJ) @ Brooklyn Bowl
The weekly Bowl Train party at Brooklyn Bowl continues tonight with guest DJ Talib Kweli. Talib also returns to the party in November to celebrate his upcoming album Radio Silence.
