What's going on Thursday?

Seaport Music Festival 15th Anniversary
The Nude Party @ Seaport Music Fesival (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Jose James (celebrates Bill Withers), My Brightest Diamond, No BS! Brass Band, Knower @ Le Poisson Rouge
Winter Jazz Fest continues today with neo-soul great Jose James doing one of his tributes to the legendary Bill Withers. Making the bill doubly exciting is art pop musician My Brightest Diamond, who’s been promising to play new music at her shows.

The Nude Party, Insecure Men, ZZZwalk @ Mercury Lounge
NY-via-NC wild garage rockers The Nude Party headline, but if you’re going be sure to catch Insecure Men which is Saul from Fat White Family.

Pop. 1280, A Deer A Horse, Dad, Irrevery @ Saint Vitus
It’s a night of moody rock with industrial-leaning Pop. 1280 and the grungy A Deer A Horse and metallers Dad.

Purling Hiss, Mike Donovan, Long Hots, Justin Frye and Greg Fox @ Sunnyvale
Philly’s very loud power trio Purling Hiss headline this all-around interesting show that features a solo set from Mike Donovan (Sic Alps, Peacers), Greg Fox (Liturgy, Zs, Ben Frost) and more.

Habibi, Le’asha Julius, Akoko Nante Ensemble, Colemancollective, Bae Bro @ Elsewhere Zone One
Poppy garage rock band Habibi headline this benefit for Climate Change Refugees.

Springsteen on Broadway @ Walter Kerr Theatre
The Boss continues his completely sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through June! At these shows, Bruce plans to give fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

Hether Fortune, Meredith Graves, Kristen Korvette, Jenn Pelly, DJ Nikki Sneakers @ Union Pool
Wax Idols are playing Elsewhere on Friday but tonight frontwoman Hether Fortune celebrates the release of her first book of poetry, Waiting in Various Lines (2013-2017). She’ll be reading, as will Meredith Graves (Perfect Pussy), and more.

Juan Maclean, Jacques Renault @ Rose Gold
Juan Maclean’s January residency at Rose Gold continues tonight with Let’s Play House head honcho Jacques Renault spinning as well. Free admission before 10 PM by RSVPing to [email protected].

Vijay Iyer Sextet @ Birdland (two shows)
After a few trio and duo albums, Vijay Iyer released his first album with his sextet, Far From Over, last year, and it’s an excellent, modern twist on post-bop. He and his sextet play two shows at Birdland tonight.

The Suitcase Junket, Kate Lorenz and The Constellations @ Mercury Lounge
The Suitcase Junket is a one-man band who made instruments out of found and repurposed objects and uses them to blend garage rock and Americana. It’s a pretty unique thing, and it sounds like the kind of thing that’s even more impressive live than recorded.

Talib Kweli (DJ Set) – Tribute to David Bowie @ Brooklyn Bowl
Talib Kweli takes over Questlove’s weekly Bowl Train DJ night to pay tribute to Bowie, who would have turned 71 on Monday and who passed away two years ago yesterday.
