What's going on Tuesday (Tax Day)?

Julien Baker at Town Hall
Julien Baker at Town Hall in 2017 (more by Chelsea Pineda)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Julien Baker, Tancred @ White Eagle Hall
Julien Baker is still riding high off the release of last year’s truly excellent Turn Out The Lights (her first album for Matador and second overall), and she’s been touring relentlessly. Her next NYC show is a big Prospect Park show with Courtney Barnett this summer, but first she plays Jersey City tonight. If you’re going, it’s worth catching Tancred too.

Tom Ze @ Pioneer Works
Psychedelic tropicalia great Tom Zé just played Texas’ Marfa Myths festival and is kind enough to play NYC before heading home. While details about the show are scarce, the 81-year-old played with a full band at Marfa.

Russian Circles, King Woman @ Elsewhere
Instru-metal greats Russian Circles are still touring in support of 2016’s Guidance, and now they’re on the road with innovative doom band King Woman, who released their debut LP Created in the Image of Suffering on Relapse last year.

Fat Joe, A Boogie, Dave East, Jim Jones, Maino, Jaquae, Papoose @ Irving Plaza
This charity show has an awesome lineup, and one that’s VERY big for a place like Irving Plaza. New York vet Fat Joe, who’s been enjoying a resurgence ever since “All The Way Up,” leads a bill that also includes unstoppable sing-rap newcomer A Boogie, Old New York revivalist Dave East, Dipset’s Jim Jones, and more.

Buddy Guy, Ben Miller Band @ BB King’s
We have lost a few blues greats in the last few years but we’ve still got Buddy Guy, one of the greatest guitarists of the form, and he’s here tonight for his first of two BB King’s shows.

Marie/Lepanto (Will Johnson of Centro-matic and Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster), Anders Parker @ Mercury Lounge
Marie/Lepanto is the new group formed by Will Johnson of Centro-matic and Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster of Water Liars. Their debut album, all dusty folk with the occasional ragged guitar solo, came out in January.

YFN Lucci, Connie Diiamond, LevyGrey @ SOB’s
Rising Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci is fresh off releasing his proper debut album Ray Ray From Summerhill (which features T.I., Offset, and others), and he’s now supporting the album on tour.

Riff Raff @ The Kingsland
The one and only Riff Raff returns to NYC tonight to play new-ish Greenpoint venue The Kingsland, which has mostly hosted punk bands since opening. Should be interesting.

Brooklyn Won’t Back Down – A Tribute to Tom Petty feat. members of The Terrapin Family Band + Midnight North with special guests Jackie Greene, Eric Krasno, Karina Rykman, Leslie Mendelson, more @ The Bell House
Relix hosts this jam-oriented tribute to the late, great Tom Petty. There are some impressive names on the bill and more special guests promised. Any guesses?

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

Little Lamb Recordings Comedy Night @ Littlefield
This independent comedy record label is hosting a stacked lineup for a good cause – proceeds go to Everytown for Gun Safety. Comedians on the bill include David Cross, Jon Glaser, John Roberts (Bob’s Burgers), Selena Coppock, Greg Johnson (Last Week Tonight), Shalewa Sharpe, Katina Corrao, and George Gordon.

826NYC’s trivia night for cheaters w/ host Michael Ian Black @ The Bell House
“Michael Ian Black will be asking some toughies this year so whether it’s smartphone use, looking at your neighbor’s answer, or skipping a question, the cheats are the way to win. Every dollar raised will go towards helping 826NYC provide under-resourced NYC students with creative writing and tutoring programs.”

Late Night Whenever @ WNYC Green Space
Michelle Buteau (CC Half Hour, Best Week Ever) hosts this weekly live podcast in the style of a late night show. This week’s guests are Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black) and Ben Sinclair (High Maintenance).
