Diamanda Galas

What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Diamanda Galas @ Former St. Thomas the Apostle Church
Her voice is like no other. Avant-garde diva Diamanda Galas is performing new material at “Death Will Come and Will Have Your Eyes,” part of the Red Bull Music Academy. First of three shows.

Gary Numan @ Gramercy Theatre
With Tubeway Army and on solo hits like “Cars,” Gary Numan helped set the synthpop blueprint that still being followed today. This is his first of three NYC shows where he’ll be playing classic albums in full. Tonight: 1979’s Replicas.

Old 97’s, Heartless Bastards, BJ Barham @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
A double dose of superior alt-country rock, Old 97’s and Heartless Bastards play their first of two NYC shows tonight.

Shellshag, Nature Boys, Spite House, Shockwaves @ Silent Barn
Long-running eccentric DIY duo Shellshag aren’t quite like any other band in NYC, and they’re always worth catching.

Eartheater, Sunk Heaven, PVSSYHEAVEN, Dreamcrusher @ Living Gallery
Eartheater’s otherworldly psych is certainly difficult to digest, but it’s also strangly addictive. She put out two albums last year, Metalepsis and RIP Chrysalis.

Heaven’s Jail, Such Hounds, 1-800-BAND @ Union Pool
If you’re a fan of that late ’70s period where rock, power pop and new wave all fit snuggly in one jeans jacket, this show should appeal. Heaven’s Jail make catchy, no-nonsense rock and openers 1-800-Band are very much in the Nerves/Shoes model

‘Never Flirt With Puppy Killers’ Book Release Variety Show ft. Dan Wilbur, Janeane Garofalo, Josh Gondelman, Jacqueline Novak, Erik Bergstrom, Reformed Whores @ Littlefield
This sounds fun: “Join author/comedian Dan Wilbur for a Late Night-style show about books, featuring stand-up comics (who also write), characters (from books), funny games (about books), and a live band (that writes songs mostly about sex). It’s fun for the whole family, if your whole family reads a lot and is over 21.”

“Day of the Dead” Album Release & Listening Party Featuring: Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Scott Devendorf (DJ sets) @ Brooklyn Bowl
The National’s Dessner brothers put together a 59-song tribute to the Grateful Dead that’s basically a who’s who of modern-day indie. Tonight, Aaron, Bryce and their bandmate Scott Devendorf are DJing music from the album ahead of its release.

Hop Along, Speedy Ortiz, Two Inch Astronaut @ Wonder Bar
If you’re into the modern bands that are finding new, interesting ways to bring back traditional indie rock, this co-headlining bill of Hop Along and Speedy Ortiz is pretty tough to turn down. Openers Two Inch Astronaut are a good match too. The tour’s in Asbury Park tonight and it hits NYC tomorrow.

The Strawbs @ BB King’s
Progressive folk veterans The Strawbs released some great material in the early ’70s, inclulding 1974’s classic Hero and Heroine. This tour is in celebration of that record.

Cake Shop Comedy @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.
