Made in America 2018 - Sunday
Jay Rock at Made In America 2018 (more by Chelsea Pineda)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Jay Rock, Reason @ Irving Plaza
TDE’s Jay Rock returned this year with the great Redemption, which sees the West Coast rapper further refining the same craft he’s had since breaking through a decade ago, and it’s some of his best material yet. He’s supporting it on tour now with one of TDE’s newest signings, Reason, who had a standout verse on the label’s Black Panther album and then released another very promising single, “The Soul.” If you’re going tonight, be sure to get there on time for his opening set.

Jay Electronica, Slick Rick, Roc Marciano @ Sony Hall
This is an awesome triple hip hop bill, headlined by Jay Electronica and also featuring groundbreaking local legend Slick Rick and local lifer Roc Marciano, whose recorded output has been unstoppable lately.

Sammus, Machinegirl, Love Spread @ Mercury Lounge
Underground rapper Sammus is in residency at NYC’s Mercury Lounge, which continues tonight.

SYML, Flora Cash @ Bowery Ballroom
In addition to co-producing the new Jenn Champion album, electronic/indie pop musician SYML released his own In My Body EP this year and tonight his tour hits NYC.

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, King Parrot @ Saint Vitus
One of Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo’s many projects, The Illegals, returned this year with the new album Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue. They’re now supporting it on tour with King Parrot.

Jane Church, Mary Vision, Thomas Volume @ ALPHAVILLE
Matt Stevenson used to front Brooklyn band Spires now makes music as Jane Church which is still in a similar vein — smart, melodic guitar pop with a nice dose of attitude in his vocal delivery that gives it a little Lou Reed flair.

SWEET Anniversary Show w/ Michael Ian Black, David Cross, Phoebe Robinson, Seth Herzog @ Chelsea Music Hall
Seth Herzog (The Tonight Show) has been hosting this weekly stand up revue for an impressive 14 years, which he’ll celebrate this Tuesday with a big anniversary show. The lineup is also impressive to match the occasion, featuring David Cross, Michael Ian Black, Phoebe Robinson, and singer songwriter Julian Velard.

Still Corners, Foxes in Fiction, Nation of Language @ Elsewhere
UK duo Still Corners actually live in the U.S. these days but their sound — night driver, lonely road synthpop — remains unchanged. Their new album, Still Air, came out last month.

Deep Cuts, Blonder, Belaver @ Union Pool
Houston, TX’s Deep Cuts make a ethereal brand of R&B-tinged pop they call “romantica.” Catch them tonight with the like-minded Blonder.

Black Uhuru @ Highline Ballroom
Led by Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, reggae and dub greats Black Uhuru have a string of classics to their name including “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” and “”The Great Train Robbery”
