What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The World / Inferno Friendship Society, Cop/Out, Fat Heaven @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Brooklyn’s World/Inferno Friendship Society have been delivering their unique brand of cabaret punk for close to 25 years, and they’re still very active today.

Vijay Iyer Trio @ Jazz Standard (two shows)
Modern jazz great Vijay Iyer’s latest album as a bandleader was 2017’s excellent Far From Over with his sextet, which followed several albums with his trio. His trio is hitting Jazz Standard tonight and tomorrow, and his sextet will play three consecutive nights right after that.

Champagne Jerry, Aparna Nancherla, Larry Owens, Larry Krone, Jim Andralis @ Joe’s Pub
Rapper, performance artist, Ad-Rock collaborator and more, Champagne Jerry does another of his semi-regular “Clubhouse” shows tonight, “wherein Champagne Jerry is your host at a party where he and a bunch of featured artists: comedians, musicians, and people who just like champagne hang out doing the best performances you’ve ever seen in your life.” Among tonight’s guests is the witty, always-hilarious Aparna Nancherla.

Bette Smith, The Supernatural @ Mercury Lounge
Soul singer Bette Smith grew up in pre-Giuliani Bed-Stuy and she sang in church as a young child, but she was dissuaded by her father to pursue a non-religious music career, and didn’t start one until after his death in 2012. She released the very good debut album Jetlagger in 2017 on Fat Possum imprint Big Legal Mess, and she’s playing a hometown-area one-off tonight, ahead of her Europe tour.

Matt Martians (DJ), JK Crowe, Hawa @ Mercury Lounge
The Internet are gearing up for a tour, but first group member Matt Martians DJs NYC tonight (this is the late show, after the Bette Smith show at the same venue).
