Other Music's Last Day

What's going on Tuesday?

Other Music
Other Music’s last day (more by Sachyn Mital)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

‘Other Music Forever’ @ Bowery Ballroom
Beloved NYC records store Other Music closed on Saturday, but they’re throwing themselves a going away party, featuring sets by friends Julianna Barwick, Bill Callahan, Frankie Cosmos, Helado Negro, Menahan Street Band, Psychic Ills, Matana Roberts, The Tallest Man On Earth, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo, and John Zorn’s SIMULACRUM, with Janeane Garofalo hosting. Sold out, first act’s at 8 PM.

75 Dollar Bill @ Other Music
Before the Bowery show, OM will host one last free in-store, featuring duo 75 Dollar Bill at 5:30 PM. Immediately after, Matana Roberts will lead a Second Line style parade over to the Bowery and then down to Delancey outside Bowery Ballroom.

St. Vincent, Martha Wainwright, Elysian Fields, Joan As Police Woman, Very Special Guest @ (le) poisson rouge
Drummer Matt Johnson’s son Jasper sadly suffered a major seizure in February that left him with anoxic brain injury. Matt has drummed with St. Vincent, Elysian Fields, Martha Wainwright and more, and all those musicians (plus others) are coming together for this show to raise money for Jasper. It’s great music for a great cause (and sold out). Any idea who the special guest is?

Title Fight, Stand Off, Dark Thoughts, Supernatural Psycho @ The Acheron
Brooklyn punk/metal venue The Acheron is sadly closing, but they’re going out with a few banger shows. This one has punks-turned-shoegazers Title Fight, who normally play way bigger places. It’ll get VERY rowdy for them in this small room. This show is also for a good cause, benefiting the victims of the Orlando shooting and their families. Sold out.

FLAG, The Dirty Nil, War on Women @ Gramercy Theatre
Of the two current versions of Black Flag, FLAG is the one with Keith Morris on vocals, plus Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, Dez Cadena, and Stephen Egerton. They play all the old favorites, which should make tonight a very fun show. Great openers tonight too.

Bill Callahan, Sunwatchers @ Baby’s All Right (two shows)
Indie/lo-fi/slowcore vet Bill Callahan (aka Smog) has been at it since the early ’90s, and most recently released Dream River in 2013 (and then a “dub” version of it a year later called Have Fun with God). These are his final two shows in his run of six Baby’s All Right shows.

Desiigner, Lil Dicky, Lil Yachty, Dave East, Denzel Curry @ Playstation Theatre (XXL Freshmen)
XXL recently released their list of the 2016 Freshmen, aka the rappers they think are about to break. There’s no question that plenty of these guys will be huge (some already are). Tonight should be fun.

Autre Ne Veut @ National Sawdust
Alt-R&B singer Autre Ne Veut is performing a special show at National Sawdust tonight, where he’ll be playing all previously-unreleased music.

YOU., Pop. 1280, Ritual Howls @ ALPHAVILLE.
The night is dark and full of terrors, or in this case some quality industrial/goth-leaning acts.

Sara Watkins, Mikaela Davis @ Rough Trade
Sara Watkins has been busy lately with I’m With Her, Watkins Family Hour and Nickel Creek, and she’s now set to release her third solo album Young In All The Wrong Ways. It’s due out this Friday, but first she plays this NYC show.

Soul Asylum, The English Beat @ The Paramount
This double bill tour is an odd one — it’s hard to imagine these bands touring together back in the day (The English Beat broke up before Soul Asylum formed) but nostalgia smooths over everything it seems.

Loaf Muzik, Quincy Vidal, Tone Tank, Pudge @ Trans-Pecos
Local rap crew Loaf Muzik put on fun shows that are hard to deny even if you’re not familiar with the songs. See for yourself tonight.

Growing, Sun Araw, Hubble @ Union Pool
NYC ambient/drone/noise vets Growing recently released new album Disorder that feature two 20-minute tracks that fit well with its title.

Banned Books, Pinkwash, Special Guest & The Cradle @ Shea Stadium
Don Giovanni-signed noise punks Pinkwash highlight this bill, and a special guest is promised too.

Dead & Company @ Hartford, CT
After playing two NYC shows filled with favorites and appearances by former Grateful Dead member Donna Jean Godchaux, Dead & Co. do it again in Connecticut tonight.

Cake Shop Comedy! @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.

Seth Herzog’s SWEET @ The Slipper Room
Seth Herzog hosts this long-running comedy night that always features great guests.
