What’s going on Tuesday?
With Winter Storm Stella likely to wreak havoc with NYC today there may be show cancelations. We'll try and keep this up to date, but you may want to call the venue just in case. You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...
The Shins @ Bowery Ballroom
The Shins' new album Heartworms was just released and James Mercer and the band are in NYC for two special, intimate celebratory shows, this being the first. Sold out.
Sting @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Former Police-man and tantrisme proponent Sting released new album 57th & 9th late year and plays 34th & 8th tonight.
John Hodgman @ The Bell House postponed
John Hodgman hosts "Trivia Night for Cheaters" at this quiz-off to raise money for 826NYC, a nonprofit providing free writing and literacy programs to under-resourced NYC students.
Buke and Gase, Greg Saunier, Adam Schatz, Jen Goma, Maria Chavez (DJ Set) @ Union Pool
Buke and Gase's "improvisational" residency at Union Pool continues, tonight with Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Adam Schatz (Landlady), Jen Goma (A Sunny Day in Glasgow) and more.
Deafheaven, This Will Destroy You, Emma Ruth Rundle @ Warsaw postponed to 3/15
The great black metal/post-rock blenders Deafheaven are touring with two openers who are well-matched with Deafheaven's post-rock side. This Will Destroy You have been at it for a while and probably even influenced Deafheaven a bit, and Emma Ruth Rundle is one of the better metal-related singer/songwriters around right now.
Strand of Oaks, Twin Limb @ Music Hall of Williamsburg postponed to 5/8
With his solo folk days long behind him, Tim Showalter further into druggy arena rock territory than ever before on this year's Hard Love. It's not the kind of record we hear a lot of lately, and it's good stuff. Twin Limb, who, like Strand of Oaks, are pals with My Morning Jacket, open the show.
King Woman, Primitive Weapons, Heavy Temple, HVAC @ Saint Vitus was cancelled, now back on and free
Kristina Esfandiari makes shoegaze under the moniker Miserable and also makes melodic doom metal with her band King Woman. They recently released their excellent debut album on Relapse, Created in the Image of Suffering.
