The Hold Steady at Brooklyn Bowl
The Hold Steady at Massive Nights 2017 (more by Lou Montesano)

What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Hold Steady, Ted Leo @ Brooklyn Bowl
The Hold Steady are kicking off their third annual ‘Massive Nights’ holiday run at Brooklyn Bowl tonight, and this show is extra special, as they’ll be performing Stay Positive in full for its 10th anniversary. Each show has a different opener, and this one’s got a solo set from Ted Leo.

Kurt Vile, Jessica Pratt @ Brooklyn Steel
Kurt Vile is on tour supporting the great Bottle It In, which is sort of a return to the laid-back jams of 2013’s Wakin On A Pretty Daze. Opening is Jessica Pratt, who recently shared the gorgeous single “This Time Around” off her anticipated 2019 album.

Protomartyr, Preoccupations, Rattle @ Warsaw
For fans of dark, post-punk inspired rock, this is a pretty great double bill with Detroit’s Protomartyr and Canada’s Preoccupations. It’s actually a great triple bill, as UK drum duo Rattle are opening and you should definitely get there early for them.

Drug Church, Gouge Away, Seattle’s New Gods @ Alphaville
Drug Church and Gouge Away are responsible for some of 2018’s best punk records, so it’s a real treat that they’re now on the road together. Seattle’s New Gods make for appealing support — this is sure to be an all-around punk show in an up-close-and-personal space (and it’s sold out).

Goatwhore, The Casualties, Black Tusk, Great American Ghost, Gozu @ Gramercy Theatre
The annual Metal Alliance Tour rolls into NYC tonight with blackened death vets Goatwhore, NYC punk vets The Casualties, Georgia sludge staples Black Tusk, and more.

Travis Scott, Trippie Redd, Gunna, Sheck Wes @ Madison Square Garden
Travis Scott is bigger than ever thanks to this year’s world-conquering Astroworld, which he’s supporting on this spectacular, massive tour. This is his second of two MSG shows.

Gunna, Powers Pleasant @ Schimanski
After opening for Travis Scott at MSG, Gunna heads to Schimanski for an after show which is being opened by Powers Pleasant, who has a very promising debut EP on the way (featuring Joey Bada$$, A$AP Ferg, Denzel Curry, IDK, Flatbush Zombies, and more).

Maxwell @ Wellmont Theatre
Soul and R&B great Maxwell is gearing up to complete his NIGHT trilogy in 2019 and is currently on his “50 Intimate Nights” tour small theaters like Wellmont.

Xeno & Oaklander, Speaking Parts, Plastic Ivy @ Saint Vitus
Goth/darkwave/minimal-synth party Nothing Changes has been operational out of St. Vitus for a while now, and tonight is headlined by duo Xeno & Oaklander who still make synthpop the old fashioned with — with step sequencers and patch-cords. 11 PM doors for this late night party.

Ilana Glazer @ Union Hall
While we wait for the final season of Broad City, co-creator Ilana Glazer is doing four nights of “Ilana Glazer & Friends” shows at Union Hall.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which wraps up soon — December 15. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
