Quicksand

What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Quicksand, Converge @ House of Vans
The free shows at House of Vans continue tonight, and if you’re a fan of loud music, this double bill is pretty tough to pass up. There’s Walter Schreifels’ band Quicksand, whose influence on post-hardcore is undeniable and who have been reunited for a few years now. There’s also Converge, who are quite influential themselves and who have been consistently great for over two decades now. RSVP is closed, but even if you did RSVP, entry is first come first served.

Mexrrissey, Los Cafres, La Dame Blanche @ Central Park SummerStage
Morrissey’s popularity south of the border is storied, so here’s a natural progression with this Mexico City seven-piece reinventing The Smiths and Moz classics as Mexican folk songs. Novelty? Sí, pero bueno. This should be a fun SummerStage show.

Mr. Twin Sister @ Manhanttan Inn
The Brooklyn band will be performing “deconstructed material, solo sets, instrumentals, unreleased music and a quartet performance with saxophone, piano, drums and bass” at this first installment of Manhattan Inn’s free “Séries Botanique” performances.

‘Scream’ screening with Juliana Huxtable @ McCarren Park (Summerscreen)
Summerscreen returns to McCarren Park for free movies and music in McCarren Park. Tonight’s 2016 kickoff features classic wink-wink horror film Scream and live music from Juliana Huxtable. Music starts at 7 PM with the movie at Sundown.

EXO-TECH, Kimbra, Sophia Brous, Yuka Honda, Mauro Refosco, Danny Meyer, Moses Sumney, Brian Chase (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Miho Hatori (of Cibo Matto) @ (le) poisson rouge
What is EXO-TECH? “Traversing fields between Liquid Liquid, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Talking Heads and the soundtracks of Jodorowsky or Herzog, EXO-TECH is a live improvised ensemble created by antipodean banshees Sophia Brous and Kimbra, featuring a cast of exceptional musical heads.”

Big Business, Andy the Doorbum @ Saint Vitus
Big Business offer up more of their catchy sludge on Command Your Weather, which is out this week. This is their first of two NYC shows in support of it.

Steely Dan @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Walter Becker, Donald Fagen and their cast of ace musicians deliver up (Cuervo) gold hits on “The Dan Who Knew Too Much” tour.

Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Melissa Etheridge@ Beacon Theater
’80s superstar Pat Benetar headlines this show with her longtime collaborator (and husband) Neil Giraldo. Melissa Etheridge can hardly be called an opener here.

Non-Phixion, Q-Unique @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Underground rap group Non-Phixion (featuring Ill Bill, later of La Coka Nostra) reunited a couple years ago, and they’re still going strong.

Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Of Mice & Men @ Nikon at Jones Beach Theater
Do you like your alternative metal with equal amounts of theatricality and pop appeal? If so, a double bill of Slipknot and Marilyn Manson is the place to be.
